SouthCoast high school scores and highlights from Friday, Jan. 28

Here's a look at the high school highlights and scores from Friday, Jan. 28 along with late scores from Thursday, Jan. 27.

BOYS HOCKEY

Bishop Stang 5, Foxboro 2

It was an afternoon to remember for Bishop Stang boys hockey on Friday as the Spartans won the Dartmouth Holiday Tournament championship (that was postponed from late December), extended their unbeaten streak to 21 games and helped head coach Ken Gouveia capture his 100th career win at Stang (100-61-21). Quinn Pine had two goals while Justin Gouveia and Adyn Simmon each had a goal and an assist. Seamus Marshall (goal), Nate Moniz (assist) and Jack Jedrey (assist) also contributed offensively while Matt Dore made 33 saves. Stang (10-0-1, 3-0-0 CCL) hosts Latin Academy at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Hetland.

South Shore 9, GNB Voc-Tech 6

GNB Voc-Tech’s Brandon Borges had the hat trick and Nick Sears added two goals while Jacob Belli chipped in with one goal. Nathan Marcelino had two assists while Kevin Cormier, Max Lague, Matt Harding, Ayden Chisholm and Borges picked up assists. The Bears (1-8, 1-4 SCC) host Seekonk/D-R on Monday at 8 p.m.

BOYS BASKETBALL

New Bedford 61, Barnstable 43

Behind balanced scoring, the Whalers captured their second win of the season. Craig Baptista scored a team-high 14 points while Sam Mosher added 10 and Anthony Diakite chipped in with nine points and 10 rebounds. The Whalers (2-9, 0-3 SEC) visit Brockton on Tuesday.

South Shore 54, Old Colony 42

The Cougars played their best game of the season, but were one rebound away from victory. With 3.7 seconds left in the game, Ryan Scott put up a three with a clean look at the basket. Matt McGuiggan had a season-high 22 points. The Cougars (5-8, 2-4 MAC) will travel to Norfolk on Tuesday.

GNB Voc-Tech 70, Greater Lowell 57

Curran Farnworth was one assist away from a triple-double, finishing with 11 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists. Serrone Ramos had 14 points, four rebounds and three blocks while Matt King scored a team-high 15 points. Tyler Dubois chipped in with 14 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. The Bears (8-6, 4-4 SCC) host Fairhaven on Monday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

South Shore 28, Old Colony 22

Brooke Jason scored a team-high 10 points to lead the Cougars while Isabel Hougasian added six. Old Colony (6-5, 4-2 Mayflower) hosts Norfolk Aggie on Tuesday.

Bridgewater-Raynham 62, Dartmouth 39

Despite 17 points from Katherine Cheesebro, Dartmouth suffered its fourth straight loss and second on back-to-back nights. Dartmouth (5-6, 1-2 SEC) hosts Apponequet on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

BOYS TRACK

Fairhaven 54, Case 32

With the win, the Blue Devils captured the South Coast Conference Small Division dual meet championship on Thursday night at GNB Voc-Tech. Winners for Fairhaven were Ian Pereira in the mile (5:33) and 2-mile (11:23), Luke Morrison in the 300 (42.00), Ethan Nault in the 600 (1:44.7), Maison Sweet in the 1,000 (3:12) and Nate Grace in the hurdles (10.1). Morris was second in the dash. Fairhaven’s 4x400 team also won with a time of 4:04. “This was all possible with an exciting win in the relay to tie Wareham on Jan. 13 and a total team effort and winning the relay against Seekonk on the 20th,” said Fairhaven coach Paul Mello. “Without those exciting relay wins we would not have won the Gold (small school) Division.” The Blue Devils (3-1-1, 3-1 SCC) will compete in the SCC championship at GNB Voc-Tech on Feb. 12.

GIRLS TRACK

Case 50, Fairhaven 36

Laura Hubert was a double-winner, placing first in the 55 dash (8.1) and hurdles (10.6) Sadie Hubert was second in both the 55 (8.2) and 300. The Blue Devils (0-5, 0-4 SCC) will compete in the SCC championship at GNB Voc-Tech on Feb. 12.
