SouthCoast high school scores and highlights from Thursday, Feb. 2

Here's a look at the scores and highlights from Thursday (and Wednesday's late) high school action on the SouthCoast.

GIRLS TRACK

Old Rochester 54, Apponequet 32

Old Rochester wrapped up an undefeated season on Wednesday night, clinching the South Coast Conference regular season crown. Alexia Gonsalves was a double-winner, taking first in the mile (6:06.4) and 2-mile (13:14.4). The Bulldogs also got wins from Delilah Post in the 600 (1;53.3), Maddie Conner in the 1,000 (3:25.5), Audrey Thomas in the 300 (44.8) and Lily Crook in the shot put (25-8) as well as the 4x400 team (4:54.8) of Post, Scarlet Patnaude, Conner and Jill LeBlanc. Winners for Apponequet (3-2) were Morgan Hayward in the high jump, Emerson Ricciardi in the 55 hurdles and Reagan Flynn in the 55 dash.

GNB Voc-Tech 51, Fairhaven 35

Winners for GNB Voc-Tech (2-3) were Liane Fortes in the 55 hurdles, Madalyn Duarte in the 600, Koral Medeiros in the shot put, Myia Barboza in the 300 and the 4x400 relay team of Emily Antao, Nevaeh Escobar, Barboza and Duarte. For Fairhaven (3-3, 3-1 SCC), Laura Hubert won the 55 dash (7.8) and high jump. Lilly LaFountain won the 2 mile in 15:18 and Emma Flannery won the mile in 6:34. The Blue Devils and Bears will compete in the SCC championship on Feb. 11 at GNB Voc-Tech.

BOYS TRACK

GNB Voc-Tech 72, Fairhaven 14

The South Coast Conference Blue Division champion Bears (5-0, 4-0 SCC) beat the SCC Gold Division champion Blue Devils. Winners for Voc-Tech were Daniel Ward in the mile, Owen Viera in the 55 hurdles and high jump, Jarred Quan in the 55 dash, Nathan Fernandes in the 600, Antonio Caneira in the 1,000, Justin Andrade in the 300, William Guillotte in the 2 mile and A.J. Algarin in the shot put as well as the 4x400 relay team of Fernandes, Jordon Perez, Viera and Ward. For Fairhaven (4-2, 4-0 SCC), Nate Branco was second in the high hurdles in 8.5, Josh Arruda was second in the 1,000 in 3:18 and Kevin Moura was second in the shot put. The Blue Devils and Bears will compete in the SCC championship on Feb. 11 at GNB Voc-Tech.

Old Rochester 67, Apponequet 19

Sam Balsis won three events to pace the Bulldogs. Balsis was first in the hurdles (8.3), high jump (5-6) and 300 (40.1). Other winners for ORR were Tyler Young in the mile (5:01.5), Jacksen Martin in the shot put (38-02.50), Murray Copps in the 600 (1:33.4) and Aidan Silk in the 1,000 (2:55.7) as well as the 4x400 team (4:05.2) of Jackson Veughan, Luke Devoe, Nolan Bushnell and Copps. Winners for Apponequet (1-4) were Aydan Fournier in the 2-mile and Justin Serrecchia in the 55 dash. The Lakers will compete Saturday during the Janiak Freshmen-Sophomore Meet at GNB Voc-Tech.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Old Colony 47, Upper Cape 40

The Cougars clinched a spot in the MIAA state tournament with the win. Olivia Perry knocked down three 3-pointers en route to a team-high 19 points while Hailey Hathaway and Izzy Hougasian chipped in with 12 points apiece. Old Colony (10-5, 6-2 MAC) visits Tri-County on Monday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Upper Cape 67, Old Colony 63

The Cougars came up short in a game that featured 10 lead changes. Old Colony led by six at halftime, but couldn’t keep the momentum in the final 16 minutes. Ryan Scott had 14 of his team-high 29 points in the first quarter. Max Finney added 11 points, five rebounds, six assists, one steal and one block while Matt McGuiggan had 10 points and three steals. The Cougars will host Tri-County Monday.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Apponequet 85, Old Rochester 81

Kallie Fournier and Lauren Bernaiche both won two individual events and swam on a pair of winning relays for Apponequet (4-3-1). Fournier was first in the 200 IM (2:30.00) and 100 breaststroke (1:19.53) while Bernaiche won the 100 freestyle (1:03.56) and 100 backstroke (1:13.54). Maddie Voic was first in the 500 freestyle (6:29.22). Bernaiche and Fournier teamed up with Mackenzie Owen and Charlotte Carvalho to win the 200 medley relay (2:08.81) and 200 freestyle relay (1:56.99). Owen, Voci, Nora McClurkin and Jocelyn Carvalho won the 400 freestyle relay (4:39.83).

BOYS SWIMMING

Old Rochester 80, Apponequet 59

For Apponequet (0-8), Hunter Owen won the 200 freestyle (2:01.76) and 100 butterfly (1:00.90) while Eugene Jung was first in the 200 IM (2:17.42) and 100 breaststroke (1:08.67). David Jope also was fastest in the 50 freestyle (26.59).
