SouthCoast high school scores and highlights from Saturday, Nov. 5

Here’s a look at the scores and highlights from Saturday’s high school action on the SouthCoast.

FOOTBALL

GNB Voc-Tech 22, Durfee 20, OT

Durfee scored with 35 seconds left to tie the game at 14 and send it into overtime. With four downs from the 10, GNB Voc-Tech (3-6) went first and Joseph Brightman scored on a one-yard run and ran in the two-point conversion. Durfee answered with a touchdown of its own but the two-point conversion pass attempt was picked off by Michael Murphy to seal Voc-Tech’s second straight win. Harrison Cabral scored a 20-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and Brightman had a four-yard TD run in the third. McManus, who connected on two PATs, is tied for the school career record as a junior.

New Bedford 28, Framingham 8

The Whalers (2-7) captured their second straight win behind a balanced offensive attack. Amari Harris threw a pair of touchdowns passes, connecting with Dezmond Brunskill and Jahzed Valls. Brunskill had over 100 yards receiving while Valls also hauled in a two-point conversion. Zakari Nunes had a rushing touchdown and Calvin Cruz had a fumble recovery for a score and an interception.  Isaiah Silva was 3 of 4 on extra points. “We played well in all three phases,” said New Bedford head coach Mark DeBrito. “We still have room for improvement, but have made great strides from where we were at in the beginning of the year.”

FIELD HOCKEY

Triton 2, Bishop Stang 1

No. 24 Bishop Stang came up short to ninth-seeded Triton in the Div. 3 Round of 32 to finish the season with a record of 7-8-4. Sydney Plouffe had Stang’s lone goal off an assist from Ava Pacheco. Julia Caron made 11 saves in net. “Stang field hockey played their best game of the season leading after the first half 1-0,” said head coach Kara Caron. “Unfortunately they gave up two unanswered goals in the second half, but Stang played their best field hockey of the season allowing the ninth seeded team in Division 3 to win by only one goal in this game.”

Sandwich 7, Old Rochester 0

The No. 34 Bulldogs lost to second-seeded Sandwich in the Div. 3 Round of 32. ORR was outshot 37-0 and saved 30 shots. The Bulldogs were involved in 22 defensive corners. “A solid defensive effort by goalkeeper Molly Dupree, Reese Burger, Tessa Winslow, Sofia Irish, Arianna Vinagre, and Lauren Rapoza,” said ORR head coach Lauren O’Brien. “Murray Callahan flew in the cage for all 22 corners.” The Bulldogs finish the year with a record of 9-8-2.

CROSS COUNTRY

MSTCA Frank Mooney Invitational

Competing in the Large School Division for Dartmouth were Sam Shrestha (18:11.1) and Serena Carnes (28th; 21:43.5) in the senior race , Elaijah Monteiro (sixth; 17:17.3) and Lauren Kelly (23rd; 21:14.4) in the junior race and Jared Mendonca (18:14.0) and Amya Moura (33rd; 22:22.0) in the sophomore race. For Apponequet, Hannah Kuriscak (sixth; 12:48.5), Keltey Fournier (seventh; 12:51.4) and Ryan Levesque (22nd; 11:14.2) competed in the freshmen races while Isabella Sergio (20th; 23:09.8), Madeline Polochick (23rd; 23:22) and Tyler Gray (22nd; 19:07.7) ran in the sophomore races. Nathan Levesque (29th/17:50.9) and Aydan Fournier (30th; 17:55.1) competed in the junior/senior race.
