SouthCoast high school scores and highlights from Friday, Jan. 6

Here's a look at the scores and highlights from Friday's high school action on the SouthCoast.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Bishop Stang 66, Arlington Catholic 63

Sage Baptiste recorded 33 points and 14 rebounds to power the Spartans to victory. Daejon Gibson chipped in with 20 points and six assists. Stang visits Bishop Connolly on Tuesday.

GNB Voc-Tech 66, Case 34

Brady Fries sparked the struggling Bears with five 3-pointers en route to a team-high 19 points to end a two-game losing streak. He also had two rebounds and two steals. Cam Morin contributed 16 points, 10 rebounds and five steals. “Senior Cam Morin played inspired ball capturing his third double double of the year,” said head coach Rob Delaleu. Curran Farnworth added six rebounds, seven assists and five steals. Voc-Tech (4-5, 2-2 SCC) visits Seekonk on Tuesday.

Atlantis Charter 65, Old Colony 51

Ryan Scott scored 22 points for Old Colony while Max Finney added 11 points and Matt McGuiggan chipped in with nine. Scott scored 11 of his points in the fourth quarter as the Cougars went on a 22-11 run, but it was too little too late. Scott also had six rebounds and three assists while Finney chipped in with 13 rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block. McGuiggan added six steals. The Cougars (4-2) host South Shore on Wednesday.

Somerset Berkley 64, Fairhaven 53

The Blue Devils suffered their third straight loss despite 18 points from Ryan Ptaszenski and 12 from Isaac Petruski. Fairhaven (2-5, 0-4 SCC) visits Case on Tuesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bishop Stang 58, Arlington Catholic 24

Sophie Caldwell knocked down five 3-pointers and added a layup for 17 points. Molly Sisson added 17 points and 10 rebounds while Bridget Markey chipped in with 15 for Stang (6-2, 2-1 CCL).

Old Colony 37, Bishop Connolly 22

Hailey Hathaway notched a team-high 12 points while Olivia Perry added nine and Lindsey Bacchiocchi chipped in with seven. The Cougars (4-3, 0-0 Mayflower) visit South Shore on Wednesday.

Old Rochester 59, Seekonk 36

Emma Johnson led a balanced offensive attack with 15 points while Caroline Brogioli, Hannah Thorell and Amber Engel had 10 points apiece and Kelly Quinlan added nine. “Old Rochester used a great team defensive effort and timely shooting to get the win at Seekonk,” said head coach Rick Regan. ORR (4-5, 3-1 SCC) hosts Somerset Berkley on Tuesday.

Apponequet 72, Wareham 29

CC Levrault led the Lakers with 13 points while Hannah Kuriscak chipped in with 12 and Addie Taylor added 10. Ava Dixon contributed nine. Freshman Johnny Tompkins had a career-high 18 points to lead the Vikings. Apponequet (3-4, 3-1 SCC) visits Dighton-Rehoboth on Tuesday.

Case 66, GNB Voc-Tech 39

Laila Pires led the Bears with 16 points while Kaira Dubois added nine and Casalice Dias chipped in with seven. The Bears (1-7, 1-4 SCC) host Seekonk on Tuesday.

Somerset Berkley 46, Fairhaven 35

Maya Medeiros scored a team-high 11 points while Tenley Dakin added eight. The Blue Devils (1-7, 1-3 SCC) host Case on Tuesday.

GIRLS SWIMMING

New Bedford 81, Bishop Stang 58

Cynthia Torres and Annabelle Huston both won two individual events and two relays. Torres was first in the 200 freestyle (1:14.05) and 100 backstroke (1:11.29) and swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:50.69) along with Trinity Coleman, Mackenzie Baggs and Serenity Coleman and the winning 400 freestyle relay (4:12.95) along with Serenity Coleman, Annabelle Huston and Amelia Davis. Annabelle Huston was fastest in the 200 IM (2:39.86) and 100 freestyle (1:01.63) and teamed up with Caroline Huston, Trinity Coleman and Mackenzie Baggs to win the 200 medley relay (2:04.70). Other winners for the Whalers were Trinity Coleman in the 50 freestyle (27.80), Piper Reis in diving (137.45), Serenity Coleman in the 100 butterfly (1:04.71) and Sara Curry in the 500 freestyle (6:40.87). For Stang, Emily Donatio won the 50 freestyle (27.81) and 100 breaststroke (1:17.29). The Whalers (4-0) visit Bridgewater-Raynham on Tuesday.

BOYS SWIMMING

New Bedford 64, Bishop Stang 20

Alex Conde and Jake Gioiosa each won two individual events and swam on a pair of winning relays to lead the Whalers to victory. Conde won both the 200 IM (2:23.49) and 100 butterfly (1:03.02) and swam on the winning 200 medley relay (2:09.13) along with Gioiosa, Cairon Nunez and Michael O’Leary and the winning 400 freestyle relay (4:19.52) along with Owen Jupin, Gioiosa and Nunez. Gioiosa was fastest in the 100 backstroke (1:15.61) and 500 freestyle (6:17.06). Other winners for the Whalers were Liam Burdman in the 200 freestyle (2:33.52), Nunez in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.77), O’Leary in diving (103.05) and the 200 freestyle relay (2:13.17) of Max Sylvia, Hugo Jacob, O’Leary and Burdman. For Stang, Charles Menard won the 100 freestyle (1:12.29) while Matt Carusi was first in the 50 free (31.13). The Whalers (2-2) visit Bridgewater-Raynham on Tuesday.

BOYS TRACK 

Bishop Stang 71, St. John Paul II 27

Bishop Stang 70, Tri-County 29

Bishop Stang got wins against both schools on Thursday from Lowell Copps in the 1,000 (3:04.66) and 2-mile (12:18.66), Andrew Weaver in the mile (5:05.51) and long jump (17-03.75), Jacob Cookinham in the shot put (64-07.00), Matt Murray in the 55 dash (7.39), Michael Veeghan in the 300 meters (39.56), Andrew Fortin in the 600 (1:31.98) and Jason Wang in the hurdles (9.87). The Spartans also won the 4x400 relay (3:54.45) thanks to Fortin, Chris Pacheco, Veegh and Weaver. Bishop Stang competes Jan. 12 against Southeastern at Wheaton College.

Fairhaven 55, Wareham 30

Josh Arruda was a double winner for Fairhaven, taking first in the 1,000 (3:26) and mile (5:46) on Thursday. Other winners were Kevin Moura in the shot put (39-10), Nate Branco in the high jump (5-6) and Harrison Shang in the 2-mile (13 minutes). Fairhaven (2-1, 2-0 SCC) faces Seekonk on Jan. 12 at GNB Voc-Tech.

GIRLS TRACK

Bishop Stang 48, St. John Paul II 27

Bishop Stang 51, Tri-County 44

Winners for Bishop Stang against both schools were Leah Butter in the mile (6:11.32), Hannah Fortin in the 2-mile (16:21.32), Brooklyn Andres in the shot put (26-10.00) and Julia Downey in the 55 hurdles (10.42). Bishop Stang competes Jan. 12 against Southeastern at Wheaton College.

Fairhaven 58, Wareham 27

Laura Hubert won the 55 (7.8) and high jump (4-10) to power the Blue Devils on Thursday. Other winners for Fairhaven were Arden Bradshaw in the 600 (2:10), Emma Flannery in the mile (6:42) and Carly Bradshaw in the 2-mile (14:41). Bradshaw also was second in the mile (6:53). Fairhaven (2-1, 2-0 SCC) faces Seekonk on Jan. 12 at GNB Voc-Tech.

WRESTLING

New Bedford 60, Durfee 15

The undefeated Whalers (3-0, 1-0 SEC) got pins from Luis Garcia, Eric Boucher, Nate Caron, Miguel Gomes, Aaron Pimental, Forrester Thompson, Mitchel Thompson, Isaiah Silva and Jose Bonilla on Wednesday night.
