SouthCoast high school scores and highlights from Friday, Jan. 15

Here's a look at the scores and highlights from Friday's high school action on the SouthCoast.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Old Rochester 65, Seekonk 44

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 11-0, but allowed Seekonk to tie the game at the end of the first. Steve Morrell was strong inside with 11 of his team-high 23 points in the second quarter. He also had 12 rebounds. Sawyer Fox had 11 points while Gavin Martin had nine and Braden Yeomans had eight points and five assists. The Bulldogs (5-3, 3-1 SCC) host Somerset Berkley on Tuesday.

Old Colony 84, Norfolk Aggie 59

After a close half, the Cougars broke through in the fourth quarter. Old Colony (3-5, 1-1 MAC) got 21 points apiece from Ryan Scott and Trevor Taveira while Max Finney added 19.

Wareham 57, Apponequet 46

The Vikings came out on top of a defensive battle with the Lakers thanks to some key contributions from guys off the bench. “They came in and gave us that spark of energy,” said Wareham head coach Steve Faniel. “It was good to see. It was also nice to see us be able to get some stops and rebounds when we needed to. Usually these low scoring defensive games are tough for us, but we dug in and competed and came out with a win.” Ajay Lopes led Wareham with 17 points while Daejon Gibson added 13. For Apponequet, Josh Keller scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds while Nate Levesque had 11 points and 12 rebounds. The Lakers (1-5, 1-2 SCC) host Case on Sunday. The Vikings (5-5, 3-1 SCC) host Bourne on Tuesday.

GNB Voc-Tech 56, Case 46

With six players not suiting up, the remaining Bears stepped up in big ways to power Voc-Tech to its sixth victory of the year. Leading the way were Serrone Ramos with 16 points and seven rebounds, Tyler Dubois with 14 points, five rebounds and four assists, Daunte Navedo with 13 points, two assists and three steals, Evan Mello with nine points, nine rebounds and two steals and sophomore Jhaden Reis provided a much-needed spark with three points and 10 rebounds. The Bears (6-3, 3-2 SCC) host Seekonk on Monday.

Brockton 85, Dartmouth 64

Hunter Matteson scored 28 points and grabbed eight rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as Dartmouth lost its Southeast Conference opener. In his first varsity game, freshman Aiden Smith scored 12 points and dished out three assists. Dartmouth (2-4, 0-1 SEC) hosts New Bedford on Tuesday.

Cardinal Spellman 55, Bishop Stang 45

Frank Vollaro scored a team-high 16 points and Luis Vega added 11, but the Spartans struggled from the free-throw line.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Dartmouth 53, Brockton 39

Dartmouth rode a big fourth quarter to victory in its Southeast Conference opener, scoring 21 points in the final eight minutes to overcome a three-point deficit at the end of the third. Katherine Cheesebro led the way with 20 points while Ava Crane scored 14 and Kasey Oliver added 13. Dartmouth (5-2, 1-0 SEC) visits New Bedford on Tuesday.

Bishop Stang 53, Cardinal Spellman 39

Three different Spartans reached double digits in scoring as they captured their second straight road win in the Catholic Central League. Kate Carreau had a team-high 14 points while Bridget Markey had 13 and Sophie Caldwell knocked down three 3-pointers en route to 10 points. Stang (5-2, 3-2 CCL) hosts Cardinal Spellman on Tuesday.

Old Rochester 64, Seekonk 26

Tess Adams had 19 points, four rebounds and two steals to lead the Bulldogs to their sixth win of the season and fifth in the South Coast Conference. Maddie Wright added 13 points while Caroline Brogioli, Logan Fernandes and Molly Sisson scored seven points apiece. ORR (6-1, 5-0 SCC) visits Somerset Berkley on Tuesday.

Old Colony 37, Norfolk Aggie 35

Isabel Hougasian knocked down three 3-pointers en route to 10 points to power Old Colony to its second straight win. Hailey Hathaway scored a team-high 11 points, Olivia Perry had six and Brooke Jason added five. The Cougars (4-2, 2-0 MAC) visit Upper Cape on Tuesday.

Somerset Berkley 52, Fairhaven 35

Sydney Burke had a breakout game with 20 points to lead Fairhaven. Maya Medeiros scored five while Tenley Dakin added four. The Blue Devils (4-4, 1-4 SCC) visit Case on Tuesday.

Case 54, GNB Voc-Tech 20

Savanah Dubois led the Bears (0-6, 0-3, SCC) with eight points.

BOYS HOCKEY

Dartmouth 13, Old Rochester 5

Reid Martin, Cullen Larrabee, Damien Medeiros and JC Frates each scored two goals to power Dartmouth in a game played at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence. Maddux Carreiro, Aidan Cruz, Kai Andrade, Lucas Camara and Ben Harrington scored one goal apiece. Dartmouth (4-1) visits Norwell at The Bog in Kingston on Monday.
