Southeast Health welcomes new addition to the medical group

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Southeast Health is excited to announce that an interventional cardiologist will be joining the medical group in July.

Dr. Charles Eugene Mayes Jr. comes to Southeast Medical Center after almost 10 years at Ascension Sacred Heart Medical Group in Miramar Beach, Florida. He was also director of the Cardiovascular service line at Sacred Heart Hospital on Emerald Coast in Miramar Beach and also served as the cardiovascular medical director for the Midwest market covering Port St. Joe to Pensacola, Florida.

Dr. Mayes received his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry with honors from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he also earned his Doctor of Medicine.

He did his residency in internal medicine at the University of Texas at Southwest Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, and also completed a fellowship in general and interventional cardiology at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina.

As a member of the Vanderbilt University Commodores men’s varsity basketball team from 1987 to 1991, Dr. Mayes was part of three NCAA tournament teams and team captain during his senior year.

Southeast Medical Group is excited to welcome Dr. Mayes and looks forward to the knowledge and expertise he will bring to the organization.
