They will sing seven songs, including "Raise Your Voice in Song" and "Imaginary Creatures" at noon Friday (Feb. 25) at the Aronoff Center for the Arts.

Both students have always been interested in singing.

Having taken lessons since kindergarten, Chloe said, she didn't realize what her acceptance meant until nearly one week before her performance.

"Now it's set in," she said. "It's a big deal."

Her counterpart, Hailey, never took lessons but always wanted to explore her interest in singing and acting.

"It's (days) away, so that's a lot of pressure," she said.

The two have practiced the seven songs for months on their own, Mylott said. This week will be their first group rehearsals.

"There will be about three days of intense rehearsals and one day of performances," he said. "So, it's a lot."

What is the event about?

The American Choral Directors Association is a professional development organization for directors like Mylott and his counterparts across the country.

Every year the association hosts a national conference at a different city. Composers, conductors, arrangers, directors and others gather to network and learn the latest in the industry. For students, this means meeting colleagues with similar interests.

"They get to meet some of the composers who wrote the music they're signing," Mylott said.

One such composer is Andrea Ramsey, who will conduct the middle school and junior high choir.

"It's a great opportunity for them to see how the composer intended their music to be performed," he said.
