Southern Charm Star Shep Rose Reveals That Kathryn Dennis Had Another Emotional Breakdown Off-Camera

Kathryn Dennis‘ breakdown during a recent episode of Bravo’s Southern Charm about possibly becoming a single mom if ex Thomas Ravenel goes to prison apparently didn’t end when the cameras stopped filming.

Her costar Shep Rose told PEOPLE Now that she had a second one off-air, saying he was “very worried” about her.

“She’s going through a lot, and sometimes you forget all the things she’s going through,” he said. “But, as I tell her, ‘I don’t know what you’re going through ’cause you don’t tell me.’ In friendship, you have to meet someone halfway, and I hope she’s learning that lesson, because she internalizes all this, and then it explodes, and [she] expects us to understand, and we just don’t know.’

Dennis’ legal issues with Ravenel, the father of her two children, have been captured on camera. Ravenel was arrested on an assault charge (which he has denied), and the two are now engaged in a custody battle over 5-year-old daughter Kensington and 3-year-old son Saint Julien.

Rose said he took his 26-year-old costar out for breakfast to get her to open up about the challenges in her life.

“I’m glad we did that. … She doesn’t reach out to anybody — maybe [Southern Charm castmate] Danni [Baird], some,” the 39-year-old said of Dennis. “If I see her, I feel very protective of her. ‘Let’s go sit down and let’s talk.’ That’s how I am. … I think I put her at ease, ’cause I turn everything into a joke and she likes to laugh, so I might not be the best shoulder to cry on, but I’m like Patch Adams, or someone, you know?”

He added: “Laughter is the best medicine, you know?”
