Funeral services set for Southern Illinois 12-year-old who was hit by pickup truck

Funeral services have been set for a 12-year-old southern Illinois boy who died after he was hit by a pickup truck while riding his bicycle.

The visitation for Jullian Graves of Sesser will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser with his funeral service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, according to his obituary.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department said in a release to social media that deputies responded to a call at about 2:13 p.m. Tuesday to the intersection of Illinois 154 and Circle M Road in Sesser.

Witnesses to the accident and the driver of the eastbound truck that hit him told them the child rode his bike into the intersection without stopping.

The boy was headed southbound on Circle M, the release stated. He was airlifted with severe injuries to a regional hospital and later died, according to the sheriff’s department.

The crash remains under investigation. Illinois State Police traffic crash reconstruction unit is assisting. Sesser police, firefighters, Franklin County Emergency Management, Abbott Ambulance, AirEvac Lifeteam and numerous bystanders assisted at the scene, the release stated.
