This Southern Indiana lakefront mansion has all the bathrooms, and it's up for auction

A property described as "one of Indiana's most scenic and serene estates" will be auctioned off in April.

Sure, it has its own dock, a French nickname and a pool. But maybe its best feature: According to property records, it has eight full bathrooms.

Located along the Bischoff Reservoir in Southeastern Indiana, the estate is referred to as "Le Reve," according to a news release from DeCaro Auctions. The auction will take place at 11 a.m. ET April 15 on the property at 13198 N. County Road 400 E in Batesville.

The land, originally owned by the city of Batesville, was purchased by orthopedic surgeon Stephen Stein in 2002, according to Ripley County property records. In a 2020 real estate feature in the Wall Street Journal, Stein said he and his wife, Rebecca, moved to Batesville with their two children and built the home.

According to his interview with WSJ, the couple hired local architect Susan Glaser for the project and work. He said it took more than a year and cost $5 million to build.

Some features of the home include:

  • Gourmet kitchen with high-end appliances

  • Five bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bath

  • Primary bathroom with a big closet and large soaking tub

  • Wood-paneled elevator

  • Outdoor area with covered porch, greenhouse, pool and hot tub
