Southern Indiana school boards adopt 2024 budgets

Oct. 18—SOUTHERN INDIANA — Southern Indiana school districts are adopting budgets for 2024.

This week, the school boards for Greater Clark County Schools, New Albany Floyd County Schools and Clarksville Community Schools approved their budgets, which will require final approval by the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance.

The Silver Creek School Corp. board already voted at its Sept. 26 meeting to adopt the 2024 budget.

Borden-Henryville School Corp. is set to adopt its budget at an Oct. 30 meeting, according to the public notice to taxpayers.

GREATER CLARK

The Greater Clark board voted unanimously at Tuesday's meeting to adopt a total budget of $156.4 million. The budget includes $76.6 million in the education fund, $29.5 million in the operations fund and $3.1 million in the rainy day fund.

Greater Clark Chief Financial Officer Laura Hubinger said the budget includes funding "invested back into our children and our classrooms."

"You have successfully accomplished a balanced budget, and that is huge," she said.

The tax rate is advertised at $1.43, but Hubinger notes that the actual rate will be lower at $1.10, which is consistent with the past few years in Greater Clark.

NEW ALBANY-FLOYD COUNTY

The NAFCS board voted unanimously at Monday's meeting to adopt a total budget of $154.6 million. This includes $81.9 million in the education fund, $41.6 million in the operations fund and $4 million in the rainy day fund.

NAFCS Chief Financial Officer Chris Street noted in the 2024 budget document that the district is "entering the 2024 budget year in solid financial condition."

"Cash flows are positive, cash balances are prudent and capital improvements are occurring," he said in the document.

The tax rate is advertised at $1.37, but Street expects the actual rate to remain consistent with the past couple of years at $1.05.

CLARKSVILLE

The Clarksville Community Schools board approved a total budget of $56.3 million at a Tuesday meeting.

The budget includes $47.7 million in the education fund, $4.5 million in operations and $200,000 in rainy day.

Brian Shaw, communications coordinator for Clarksville Community Schools, notes that in addition to funding for the brick-and-mortar schools, the budget includes virtual programs such as the district's Indiana Gateway Digital Academy,

SILVER CREEK

The Silver Creek School Corp. board voted unanimously at its Sept. 26 meeting to adopt a budget of $40.2 million. The budget includes $21.5 million in the education fund, $8.6 million in operations and $1.1 million in rainy day.

BORDEN-HENRYVILLE

The Borden-Henryville School Corp. has advertised a total budget of $22.4 million. The budget includes $12.6 million in the education fund and $5.4 in operations.
