Southern Miss baseball outfielder Carson Paetow named Freshman All-American

HATTIESBURG — Southern Miss outfielder Carson Paetow picked up Freshman All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball on Wednesday.

Paetow enters the super regional with 16 homers, which ties him for second on the team. He's also second among all Golden Eagles (47-17) with a .948 OPS through 63 games and 223 at-bats.

His batting average sits at .278 for the year, with 15 doubles and 48 RBIs.

Southern Miss coach Scott Berry moved Paetow up to the leadoff spot in the order to begin the Hattiesburg Regional, with the knowledge that the Golden Eagles had been unbeaten to that point with the freshman's left-handed bat at the top of the lineup.

There's now one small blemish on that record, coming from a walk-off loss to LSU on Saturday. But Southern Miss made it through the weekend, with Paetow homering three times – all against LSU.

The Golden Eagles will begin their super Regional against Ole Miss (35-22) with an 18-1 record with Paetow in the leadoff spot.
