Southern Nevada mechanic offers to help fix damaged cars after issues reported at Henderson auto shop
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – After seeing a series of 8 News Now stories about issues reported at Henderson Mechanic Duaine’s Automotive, another local shop is offering to help those affected.
It’s a story 8 News Now has been telling for more than a year after several people said Duaine’s Automotive in Henderson refused to return their cars for months.
“When he disappeared, so did my car,” Aaron Schlivka said of his experience in January of 2023.
Many, including Aaron, told 8 News Now when they did get their vehicles back, they were undrivable.
“There’s just a hole in the middle of my Jeep,” Paul Thompson told 8 News Now in January 2024.
After several 8 News Now reports on Duaine’s, the DMV Compliance Enforcement Division served a search warrant in January 2023 and returned five cars back to their rightful owners. The garage license was also revoked.
However, last month, Thompson reached out and said the same thing happened to his Jeep a year later at the same location.
“He did take the whole motor out, the transmission,” Thompson explained. “The only thing that is left in the jeep right now are the drive lines.”
The address is now registered on the DMV’s website as ‘Carb’s Automotive, which is also listed as a trade name for Duaine’s Automotive on Henderson’s Business License website.
“We read the story,” Scott Weiner, Service Manager of Master Tech Automotive told 8 News Now, “And we just couldn’t believe, that was crazy.”
Weiner said he and his father want to help after seeing several of our 8 News Now stories.
“Anyone who was taken advantage of by Duaine’s Automotive,” Weiner said. “We’ll figure out what your car needs.”

He said anyone left high and dry can take their car to Master Tech Automotive and only pay the cost of parts, no labor fees.
“We felt horrible for the people in the community,” Weiner explained.
He said the company hopes this gesture will help anyone struggling to get back on their feet and move forward from what many have called an absolute nightmare.
Weiner said anyone who requests this deal must provide proof of issues and money spent at Duaine’s Automotive or the location’s current operating name, Carb’s Automotive.
Weiner also wanted to add that a reputable mechanic will never ask for a deposit up front, but will instead require payment when repairs are completed.
