Southwest Airlines Adds Routes Across the United States

SkyWest's (SKYW) fleet transition initiatives aid its first-quarter 2019 results

Southwest Airlines LUV recently announced several nonstop domestic services. As a result, it has extended its bookable flight schedule through Nov 2, 2019.

The carrier intends to add a weekend service connecting St. Louis with Salt Lake City from Aug 10, 2019 onward. However, starting Oct 2, 2019, this nonstop service will be extended to a daily flight. The same day, the airline will resume its previous (which was in service during March 2013) twice-daily nonstop operations connecting Baltimore/Washington with Newark.

Further, the carrier will begin operations between Nashville and Buffalo, N.Y., beginning Oct 5. This flight will be available only over the weekends. Additionally, the airline will initiate Sunday services connecting Houston (Hobby) with Amarillo and Dallas Love Field with Cleveland. These fights will also commence on Oct 5.

The company recently began its much-awaited Hawaii service from Oakland to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport. This expansion is a key step toward Southwest Airline’s growth initiatives for 2019. In January, the low-cost airline announced plans to increase flying by 5% this year, half of which will emerge from its Hawaiian flights. Airline companies make constant efforts to expand operations in response to rising travel demand. To this end, Spirit Airlines SAVE recently began a daily nonstop service from Indianapolis to Orlando, FL and Las Vegas, NV. Simultaneously, the carrier announced a couple of flights from the region, set to launch this winter.

Earlier in the month, United Continental Holdings’ UAL subsidiary United Airlines introduced services from Los Angeles, Denver and Cleveland to eight cities across California, Florida and Texas. Simultaneously, multiple other services are lined up to be unveiled later this month.

Meanwhile, Alaska Air Group’s ALK unit Alaska Airlines introduced a daily nonstop service connecting Seattle-Tacoma International Airport with Columbus International Airport in a bid to widen its network across the West Coast.
