Southwest Airlines flights resume at Nashville airport after 'technical issue' prompts ground stop

When there are dogs waiting at home, a ground stoppage like the one Southwest briefly called for Tuesday morning can be an annoying occurance.

That was the case for Lori Miller. When Miller, a New Yorker flying through Nashville International Airport, discovered the departure pause, she worried about missing a flight.

"I need to get back home and see my puppies,” Miller said.

The Federal Aviation Administration on Tuesday morning announced that Southwest Airlines requested a pause on all departures from all airports.

Thirty minutes later, the pause was canceled.

Around 10 a.m., Southwest Airlines released a statement explaining the pause was requested so the company could "work through data connection issues resulting from a firewall failure."

"Early this morning, a vendor-supplied firewall went down and connection to some operational data was unexpectedly lost," the company said. "Southwest Teams worked quickly to minimize flight disruptions."

Southwest passenger Laura Register, was completely unaware of the issue and shrugged it off. “Southwest always takes care of me,” Register said. “I have more things to worry about.”

Nearby Tuesday morning, Ali Baldan was dropping his friend off at the Southwest terminal. He plans to fly with the airline this weekend. While he said he's never had issues flying Southwest, he wished the company would be more transparent about what caused the pauses on departures.
