Southwest Florida high school sports scores for events played the week of Aug. 22-27

Here is a roundup of high school sports events played the Week of Aug. 22-27. It will be updated each night during the week as games, matches, and meets are completed and reported.

Saturday, Aug. 27

Boys Cross Country

The Cape Coral boys won the Lehigh Invitational with a team score of 55 and a 17:33 average. Leading the Seahawks were William Canales (16:51.7) who placed fourth and Jake Jacoby (17:13.0) who finished sixth. Palmetto Ridge placed second behind efforts from Chris Amador (16:37.9) who earned third, and eighth-place finisher Jayden Saint-Paul (17:23.9). Community School of Naples earned third with to two top-five finishes. Sergi Guzman (16:25.9) placed first at the meet, with SFCA's Hayden Tank (16:27.1) closely behind. Tyler Mastrangelo (16:54.30) finished fifth for CSN.

Girls Cross Country

The Oasis girls won the Lehigh Invitational with a team score of 78, behind a third place finish from freshman Jazlyn Forbes (20:31.9), and a sixth placed finish from Jenna Rosado (21.02.1). Village School of Naples placed second with a team score of 104 points, led by Laura Lappin (21.18.7), who finished eighth. North Fort Myers placed third with a team score of 124. Alexis Neumann (21.58.4) placed highest for the Red Knights at 13th. ECS's Ava Povich (19.08.9) earned first at the meet, followed by Lehigh's Gianna Del Pizzo.

Friday, Aug. 26

Boys Golf

The Bishop Verot boys won the Bishop Verot Invitational with a team score of 607.  Kevin Kelly finished tied for third with teammate Michael Bevins who shot a 151 for the Vikings, followed by Dalton Payne who placed T5 after he shot a 152. Estero placed second with a team score of 647. JD Dintino medaled after he shot a 142 for the Wildcats, and teammate Adin McMaster finished T5 with a score of 152. Community school of Naples finished third with a team score of 658. Krish Sharma notched the lowest score for CSN with a 160 and finished tenth.

Casteel placed fourth with a team score of 690, followed by Barron Collier (698), Oasis (706), Bishop Verot's second team (714), Bonita Springs (769), and First Baptist (773).

Girls Golf

The Gulf Coast girls won the Bishop Verot Invitational with a team score of 640. Pearl Jenkins medaled for the Sharks after she shot a 146. Sara Vitasek also placed inside the top five for Gulf Coast after she placed fourth with a 157. Bishop Verot came in second with a team score of 652. Morgan Franklin placed second with a 149 for the Vikings. Casteel came in third with 664, followed by First Baptist with 728.

Thursday, Aug. 25

Volleyball

Barron Collier played host to Fort Myers in a volleyball showdown Thursday, Aug. 25 with the Cougars pulling out a 3-1 win.

Barron Collier 3, Fort Myers 1: The Cougars (2-0) won 25-19, 25-11, 23-25, 25-11 over the Green Wave (1-1). Scarlett Martz and Kendra Pruitt (3 blocks) had 15 kills each for Barron Collier and Charlotte Mongin added 13. Jillian Goetz had 36 assists and 3 aces. Keira Kruk recorded 26 digs and 5 kills and Ashley Giraldo had 20 digs.

ECS 3, Bishop Verot 1: The Sentinels won in four sets 16-25, 26-24, 25-15, 25-23. Reilly Mulligan led the way with 14 kills, 6 aces, and 17 digs. Ashlyn Anderson had 4 aces and 26 assists. Demi Ritchie had 33 digs.

St. John Neumann 3, Oasis 1: The Celtics won 21-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-13. Alison Ortiz led St. John Neumann with six kills, five digs and three aces. The Celtics also for six kills from Natalie Mckenna and five kills from Bella Carter and Jordan Baksh.

Seacrest 3, SFCA 0: Seacrest won 25-10, 25-13, 25-20.

Riverdale 3, South Fort Myers 1: Riverdale won 25-14, 25-20, 28-30, 25-12: Senior Hannah St. Croix led the Raiders with 10 kills and 7 blocks. Senior Landyn Higginbotham followed with 9 kills. Senior Sophia Vargas posted 21 assists. Freshman Olivia Znotens and senior Kelsey Dodd each had 14 digs. Senior MaKenna Wootton had 11 aces.

Marco Island 3, Naples Classical Academy 0: Marco Island won in straight sets 25-9, 25-11, 25-5 led by Madison Stolinas (14 Assists, 3 Kills, 4 Digs, 13 Aces) and Medney Garraux (10 Kills, 4 Aces, 1 Block).

Naples 3, Port Charlotte 1: The Golden Eagles won in four sets 25-16, 25-19, 24-26, 25-18. Sarah Ramos had 16 kills and 5 blocks, alongside Sofia Villagomes's 7 kills and 5 blocks.

Cape Coral 3, Lehigh 1: Cape Coral won in four sets 15-25, 25-22, 25-8, 25-23. Hannah Slutz and Ilithyia Johnson each had 12 kills for the Seahawks.

Estero 3, Cypress Lake 0: Estero won 25-7, 25-14, 25-7.

Marco Island Academy 3, Bonita Springs 0: The Manta Rays improved to 2-0 with a 25-17, 25-16, 25-18 win. Rylee Howard (6 kills, 7 aces), Madison Stolinas (16 assists, 4 kills, 7 digs, 2 aces), and Medney Garraux (9 kills, 6 digs, 4 aces) led Marco.

Tuesday, Aug. 23

Volleyball

Community School of Naples 3, Oasis 0: The Seahawks won in straight sets 25-18, 25-10, 25-14 led by Angel Jimenez (15 Kills, 7 Digs, 2 Aces), Sofia King (30 Assists, 7 Digs, 4 Aces) and Kelly McAuley (7 Kills, 7 Digs, 1 Ace).

St. John Neumann 3, Gateway Charter 0: The Celtics won in straight sets 25-11, 25-18, 25-13 behind Shanie Sedio (21 Assists, 4 Digs), Mary Alice Hussey (8 Kills, 2 Blocks), Alysson Jaen (5 Kills, 4 Aces), and Callee Jones (5 Aces, 6 Digs).

Naples 3, Palmetto Ridge 2: The Golden Eagles won a back-and-forth home battle 21-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-14,15-11, led by Ammie Moriarty (26 digs), Amy Boll (9 Kills, 6 Digs), and Sarah Ramos (14 Kills, 7 Blocks).

Estero 3, South Fort Myers 0: Estero won 25-11, 25-13, 25-22.

ECS 3, Cape Coral Christian 0: The Sentinels won in straight sets 25-8, 25-5, 25-4 behind strong performances from Ashyln Anderson (26 Assists, 2 Aces) and Sydney Strom (8 Kills; 11 Aces).

Ida Baker 3, Cape Coral 0:  Cape Coral won 30-28, 25-15, and 25-8, led by Hannah Slutz (10 Kills) and Amber Engelhart (13 Digs and 4 Aces).

Lehigh 3, Dunbar 0: Lehigh won in straight set 25-10, 25-19, 25-8 led by Jazmin Riley (10 aces and 5 kills) Annie Huertas (14 digs and 5 assists).

Boy's Golf

Cape Coral 198, South Fort Myers 217: Cape Coral's Cole Talbert medaled after he shot a 38. Rounding out the Seahawks scores were Conner Menegigian (45), Ben Westerhouse (54), and Chandler Soloway (61). Trevor Stanko tallied the lowest score for the Wolfpack at 50, followed by Patrick Tingelhoff (55), Kassen Lacasse (56), and Max Stanko (56).

Volleyball

Marco Island Academy 3, Donahue Academy 0: Marco Island picked up the 25-7, 25-11, 25-9 win led by Rylee Howard (6 kills, 3 aces), Madison Stolinas (13 assists, 1 kill, 11 aces) and Jenna Ragan (4 kills, 4 aces). The Manta Rays next play Wednesday at Bonita Springs.

Canterbury 3, Bonita Springs 0: The Cougars won 25-18, 25-9, 25-6. Canterbury was led by Maryn Fancher (4 Aces, 8 Assists, 4 Digs) and Addison Piatt (5 kills, 3 Aces, 3 Digs).

North Fort Myers 3, SFCA 0: The Red Knight won in straight sets 25-22, 25-21, 25-12.

Seacrest Country Day 3, St. John Neumann 0: The Stingrays won in straight sets 25-14, 25-15, 25-9. For Neumann, Taylor Chatigny had four digs, four blocks , two kills and three aces while Callee Jones had eight digs and an ace.

Boys Golf

John Ryan Memorial Invitational: Gulf Coast won the John Ryan Memorial Invitational in Venice. The Sharks shot a team total 3-over 291. Junior Dominic Wirtz posted a second-place finish and led the Sharks with a 1-under 71. Senior Noah Kent shot an even-par 72 and junior Ryan Miller shot a 1-over 73. The Sharks next play in a tournament in Orlando Friday and Saturday.

Oasis boys placed 14th, shooting a team score of 355. Oasis was led by sophomore  Gabe Gair with an 81, followed by freshman Rhys Skillrud (89), sophomore Corbin Odjick (92) and freshman Job Woodby (93).
