Southwest VA Leads In Daily Coronavirus Cases, Hospitalizations
VIRGINIA — The Virginia Department of Health reported 904 new cases of the coronavirus Monday, bringing the cumulative total to 174,275. The new cases include 273 in the southwest region, 229 in the northern region, 169 in the central region, 148 in the northwest region and 85 in the eastern region.
As of Monday, there have been 3,581 coronavirus deaths and 12,260 hospitalizations in Virginia. The 904 new cases on Monday lifted Virginia’s 7-day average of cases to 1,064, up from 996 about a week ago.
According to the VDH, 1,048 people with the coronavirus are hospitalized across Virginia as of Monday. That includes 114 patients on ventilators and 230 in the intensive care units, according to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association.
Ventilator use among all hospital patients stands at 23 percent capacity, and ICU occupancy it at 81 percent. The 2019 average for ICU occupancy in Virginia was 67 percent. No hospitals are reporting difficulty obtaining personal protective equipment or other medical supplies in the next 72 hours.
The current hospitalizations include 250 in the southwest region, 248 in the northern region, 221 in the central region, 200 in the eastern region and 129 in the northwest region.
The seven-day average of positive PCR tests climbed to 5.0 percent across Virginia. There have been 2,525,421 PCR tests completed as of Monday. Positive averages by region include 7.8 percent in the southwest region, 5.2 percent in the central region, 4.5 percent in the northern region, 4.2 percent in the eastern region and 4.0 percent in the northwest region.
