Southwestern Florida Threatened With Damaging Hurricane Eta Storm Surge
Tropical Storm Eta restrengthened to a Category 1 hurricane over the Gulf of Mexico and was forecast to hit the west coast of Florida near Tampa late Wednesday, November 11.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami issued a hurricane watch for counties on the west coast of Florida.
Reports warned of a “life-threatening storm surge” and tropical-storm-force winds by late Wednesday. Eta was reportedly packing 75 mph winds as of 10 am. Storm surges of up to five feet were expected in some coastal areas.
This footage was taken in Manasota Key on Wednesday morning. Sarasota County was placed under a tropical storm warning through Thursday.
Eta caused flooding in Miami-Dade and Broward counties on Monday before moving out over warm waters in the Gulf of Mexico. Eta was about 145 miles south-southwest of Tampa on Wednesday morning and was moving at 10 mph, according to the NHC. Credit: Cammy Corzilius via Storyful
