Soybean could get Oklahoma symbol status

OKLAHOMA CITY – The soybean could be joining the strawberry and watermelon as state symbols.
The Senate on Wednesday sent Gov. Kevin Stitt House Bill 2248 that would designate the soybean as the state’s legume.
The measure passed by a vote of 37-7.
Sen. Chuck Hall, R-Perry, said the measure was requested by teachers and students in Morrison Public Schools.
He and the House author, Rep. Ty Burns, R-Pawnee, used the measure to teach students how a bill becomes law.
Oklahoma already has a long list of symbols.
The strawberry is the state fruit.
The watermelon is the state vegetable.
Recently, the ribeye was listed as the state steak.
