SPA Company to present 'The Addams Family' at Grand Forks Red River High School Performance Hall

Jul. 22—GRAND FORKS — "The Addams Family," a Summer Performing Arts (SPA) Company production, opens at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 23 in Red River High School's Performance Hall.
The run of the show continues at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 24, and at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, July 25 and 26.
"The Addams Family," a comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family, features an original story about every father's nightmare: Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family — a man her parents have never met.
And if that isn't upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. The father, Gomez Addams, must now do something he's never done: keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia.
Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night the Addamses host a dinner for Wednesday's "normal" boyfriend and his parents.
Tickets are $15 for adults; $12 for seniors; and $10 for children and students. Reservations are recommended.

The Dakota Science Center has six openings in its "Exploring Chemistry Summer Camp," set to run from 1 to 4 p.m.Monday-Thursday, July 25-28, in Abbott Hall on the UND campus.
The camp, which features hands-on experiments and fun activities, is intended for children who are entering fifth through eighth grade this fall.
Students will learn about chemical reactions, color, paper-making, polymers, food chemistry and much more.
Cost is $130 per student. Scholarships may be available for those in need.

Richard and Diane Nelson, a Grand Forks couple who also live in Minnesota lakes country, are launching a nonprofit organization, Falling Creek Players, to sponsor quality summer musical theater productions in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.
The first show, "Everly Brothers Experience," opens at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 23, in a new, 500-seat theater in the Pelican Rapids High School.
The show stars "a superb duo called the 'Zmed Brothers,' " Richard Nelson said. "The duo performs nationally and offers the audience the harmonies of one of the greatest duets in the history of the rock-and-roll era.
"Their performance delights those who remember the Everly Brothers and gives the younger audience a glimpse at the music that influenced so much of rock and roll."

The Nelsons are planning to produce musicals that require skilled actors, singers, musicians and directors. They hope, whenever possible, to engage talented individuals from North Dakota and western Minnesota "who wish to perform and hone their talents in an environment where they learn and improve themselves in the performing arts that so many love," Richard Nelson said.
In an email to the Herald, he added, "We still call Grand Forks our home, although we spend a lot of our time at Pelican Lake near Pelican Rapids."
