New spa with Himalayan salt cave opening on Columbia’s Main Street. Here’s where and when

There will soon be a new spot to relax and refresh in the heart of downtown Columbia.

Shvaas Spa, which will offer a number of services, is set to open at 1716 Main St. That’s right across from Columbia City Hall and the Richland County Courthouse. The spa will be next door to the Transmission Arcade restaurant and bar.

According to Shvaas’ social media posts and signage on the window of the building, the spa is set to open Saturday, Jan. 22. Appointments can be booked through the spa’s website.

Among the services offered by the spa will be halotherapy via a Himalayan salt cave.

“With all natural pink Himalayan salt, we have naturally recreated the micro climate of a natural salt mine,” the spa says on its website.

According to WebMD, halotherapy “involves breathing in air with tiny salt particles to improve your breathing.”

The new Main Street spa also will have a meditation zen garden, an infrared sauna and a hydro-massage system that “provides a deep tissue massage experience while remaining dry and fully clothed.”

The Main Street District has been on a roll lately. Aside from the coming spa, the Strudel Shop has announced its grand opening for Jan. 27 at 1237 Washington St., and Taco Grande will be setting up shop at 1212 Hampton St. later this year in the former Fancy That Bistro location.

Meanwhile, the high-end Smoked restaurant has opened at 1643 Main St., and TakoSushi fusion restaurant is preparing to open in the Main Street Arcade Mall. Also, Ambrosia Tavern, a Greek restaurant, is planning to open in the 1700 block of Main.

And MOA Korean BBQ and Bar recently announced it would open a 6,000-square-foot, upscale restaurant at 1333 Main St. later this year.
