Spa-themed amusement park is real and will actually launch, as promised
Yes you read that right, a spa-themed amusement park has landed in Japan.
The idea for the park came about after the mayor of the Japanese city of Beppu posted a video on YouTube last year, saying that he would build a "spamusement park" if the video hit a million views.

Never challenge the internet to anything, because the video went viral and hit almost 2 million views in one week. So the mayor kept his word, and here we are.
A roller coaster with seats filled with bubbles and a hot-tub merry-go-round are just some of the twelve attractions available the newly opened Yu-enchi park.

The hot tub merry-go-round as the name suggests, lets up to four people sit in a "bathtub" at a time.

There's also a pedal-powered carriage ride.

But it's really the foamy roller coaster ride that's the star of the show.

The conceptual video on YouTube initially showed the roller-coaster seats filled with hot water, but the park later chose to use artificial foam instead, after safety concerns.

According to the park's spokesperson, people are "not allowed to be naked" but are recommended to wear "bath towels or swimwear."
You can go in your normal clothes too, though the spokesperson warns that everything "will be wet."

Sadly, entry to the spamusement park will be very limited.
The city had previously raised over $300,000 (33 million yen) through crowdfunding alone. Those who had pledged more than $72 (8,000 yen) to the campaign received a ticket to the park, as well as a complimentary towel.
Some 12,000 visitors are expected to attend.

But if you're booking your flight to Japan right now — bad news.
The park is open for only three days. The project only rented out an existing amusement park in Beppu, and renovated some of its attractions to theme. It didn't build a new park from scratch, so the attractions will go back to the regular version.

Beppu is known for its hot springs resorts, with many across Japan specially travelling to the city to soak in the mineral-rich hot spring waters.

So if you don't manage a dip in one of the merry-go-rounds, maybe one of the many hot springs will have to do.
