The original 1996 Space Jam (streaming on HBO Max), starring Michael Jordan in a whimsical, Looney Tunes-filled space adventure, is a cult classic. The film follows Jordan in a fictionalized version of his time away from the NBA as he is kidnapped by Bugs Bunny and other members of the Looney Tunes to help them win a basketball game against their rivals, the Monsters. The film blended animation and reality and was one of the top-grossing films of 1996 when it debuted.

Now, you can catch LeBron James as himself in a brand new Space Jam film, Space Jam: A New Legacy, which follows up on the events of Space Jam and enlists James as well as several other famous athletes to help the Looney Tunes win yet another virtual reality basketball match.

What is Space Jam: A New Legacy about?

Directed by Malcolm D. Lee, Space Jam: A New Legacy functions as a sequel to the original Space Jam and follows a fictionalized version of LeBron James as he and his son (played by Cedric Joe) are taken captive by a sentient Warner Brothers AI called AI-G Rhythm (played by Don Cheadle) and trapped in a virtual reality. AI-G Rhythm forces James to form a basketball team of characters he meets in Tune World, which leads James to meet Bugs Bunny and the other Looney Tunes characters. James and the rest of the Looney Tunes face off against the Goon Squad, AI-G’s team, for a basketball game to win their freedom.
