A Christian County man with a lengthy criminal history was charged with first-degree murder on Wednesday after being accused of killing his father at a Sparta home.

Chantry D. Hale, 45, punched his father, 66-year-old Jimmy Hale, before shooting him in the head around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning, according to investigators. When deputies arrived at the rural property, they found the deceased wrapped in a blanket with duct tape, and near an open vehicle trunk.

Deputies at the Sparta home arrested Chantry Hale, who allegedly had the victim's debit card and driver's license in his pocket as well as a Glock pistol. He was also charged with first-degree armed criminal action.

Documents say a witness saw the shooting and reportedly fled to contact authorities. It's unclear in the police report why the two relatives were feuding.

Chantry's previous felony convictions include first-degree assault, burglary, felony in possession of a firearm, and repeat DWI offender. Some his crimes date back as far as 1999.

He had recently violated the terms of his parole, according to court documents, and when a probation officer reached out to him, he told the parole officer to "go kill yourself." There was a warrant for his arrest at the time of Wednesday's shooting.
