Spartanburg County school district elections: 42 run for 29 seats. Here are the results.

Spartanburg County voters selected school board members in Districts 1-7 during the municipal election on Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Poll workers at several precincts in Spartanburg said turnout through mid-afternoon Tuesday was surprisingly higher than expected but said it was because other races got people to the polls.

In total, 42 candidates ran for the 29 school board seats in Spartanburg County's seven school districts. Out of the 29 seats, 28 were filled.

In District 5, the 5-2 seat will be appointed by the district's Board of Trustees because the only candidate did not receive enough voters on her petition. Applications for the position closed on Nov. 3.

Spartanburg County School District 1

Four seats were up for election in District 1.

Wanda M McDowell - 2,092 votes, 16.2%

Billy Cothran III - 2,073 votes, 16%

Gene Vanderford - 1,875 votes, 14.5%

Barbara G Hopper - 1,807 votes, 14%

Spartanburg County School District 2

Five seats were up for election in District 2.

Brandon McKillop - 3,177 votes, 22.9%

Sarah Simmons - 3,656 votes, 26.4%

Jeff Watson - 3,472 votes, 25%

Rachel Smith Yelton - 3,341 votes, 24.1%

Cherokee County Seat

Seth Breitenbach - 3,525 votes, 98.5%

Spartanburg County School District 3

Four seats were up for election in District 3.

Eddie Dearybury - 1,034 votes, 18.4%

Billy Gossett - 1,018 votes, 18.1%

Jodi Hoyle Gilmer - 909 votes, 16.1%

Meg H Cheshier - 848 votes, 15.1%

Spartanburg County School District 4

Four seats were up for election in District 4.

Rick C Sloan - 939 votes, 13.9%

Sandy Norman - 877 votes, 13%

Nathan Craig - 856 votes, 12.7%

Micha Kelley - 785 votes, 11.6%

Spartanburg County School District 5

Four seats were up for election in District 5. Seat 5-2 will be filled by the school board.

Jeff Boland - 2,864 votes, 55.3%

Derek Watchorn - 2,213 votes, 42.7%

Spartanburg County School District 6

Four seats were up for election in District 6.

Charles I Boyd - 3,970 votes, 24.6%

Lynn R Harris - 4,221 votes, 26.1%

Wendell J Lee - 4,225 votes, 26.1%

Henry Ross - 3,538 votes, 21.9%

Five seats were up for election in District 7
