.Here's more on five developments you'll want to check out in the city:

Townhome development in works for Spartanburg's west side

Spartanburg's City Planning Commission approved a rezoning for a planned townhouse development off W.O. Ezell Boulevard July 20.

The El Dorado Townes will be behind Texas Roadhouse on Barritt Avenue. There are 33 owner-occupied townhomes planned with 3-bedroom models selling in the $200K range.

Previously, the site had been considered for a senior living community, receiving city council's approval in May 2019. At that time, the site's topographical challenges were discussed. The terrain of the property is uneven and part of it lies in a flood plain.

Developer Gordon Ray told the Planning Commission that he and his partners were prepared to make the landscape work for their project.

"It is a very, very challenging side. We make no bones about that," Ray said. "I know this thing has been turned down before. Everybody involved in this at this point, we're good. Once we get approval, we're moving forward."

Carol's Hope Thrift Store expands to Oak Grove Road

Carol's Hope Thrift Store recently opened its sixth location at 300 Oak Grove Road in Spartanburg and held a grand opening celebration on July 21. The chain of thrift stores, founded in 2014 by Carol Moeller, uses its proceeds to support families battling childhood cancer.

Customers can also shop or donate at locations on Spartanburg’s east side (2089 E. Main St.) or in Boiling Springs (3225 Highway 9), Easley (2021 E. Main St.), Taylors (3245 Wade Hampton Blvd.) or Gaffney (1250 W. Floyd Baker Blvd.).

Spartanburg's Peach Cobbler Factory now open

Peach Cobbler Factory is open at 98 Southport Road in Spartanburg. The dessert shop held a ribbon cutting on July 21. The shop offers a variety of cobblers, banana puddings, cookies, banana pudding milkshakes, which are milkshakes blended with banana pudding, and cinnamon rolls.

Whataburger, Hobby Lobby, Bath & Body Works headed to east side

Site plans for the planned east side Whataburger were approved this month. The Texas burger chain, which is also bringing locations to Spartanburg's west side, Boiling Springs and Duncan, offers burgers, including two veggie burgers, shakes, salads, breakfast items and other fast food favorites.

The east side location will be in Hillcrest Market Place, next to Tropical Smoothie Cafe. The shopping center will also welcome a Hobby Lobby (next to Petco) and Bath and Body Works (next to Garner's Natural Foods) locations.

City staff also approved site plans for a move of the current Chick-Fil-A from its current spot in the center. The restaurant will move between Whataburger and Chipotle, which they hope will alleviate traffic congestion caused by the restaurant at its current location.

Coco Bowlz in downtown Spartanburg

Coco Bowlz will replace Rocky Moo in downtown Spartanburg. The smoothie and acai bowl shop began hiring for its 100 E. Main St. location in June.

The franchise came to Spartanburg County via Boiling Springs (2475 Boiling Springs Road) last summer and celebrated the grand opening of its Duncan location (2153 E. Main St.) on July 15.
