Spartanburg District 7 trustees name Andrew McMillan as new principal of Spartanburg High

Spartanburg School District 7 trustees have announced the appointment of Andrew McMillan as principal of Spartanburg High School.

The position is effective July 1. McMillan will succeed Vance Jones, who was recently named as principal of Brookland-Cayce High School in Cayce.

McMillan leaves his post as principal at Chapman High School in Inman. He previously worked as Chapman's assistant principal for four years before being named principal in 2018.

Before working at Chapman, McMillan served as assistant principal at Campobello-Gramling School and taught social studies, and coached basketball and football for Lexington Middle School, White Knoll High School and Spartanburg High School’s Freshman Academy.

"Andrew McMillan is the clear choice as our next leader of Spartanburg High School and we could not be more excited to welcome him to the Viking Family," District 7 Superintendent Jeff Stevens said in a statement. "Dr. McMillan is highly respected as a collaborative team member with a reputation for fairness, honesty and integrity. He maintains a strong work ethic while motivating faculty, staff and students to achieve their maximum potential within an ever-changing educational environment."

McMillan, an Upstate native, received his bachelor's degree in History and Education from Newberry College. He received his Master's in Education from Southern Wesleyan University and attended Converse College for his Educational Specialist degree. McMillan has a doctoral degree in educational leadership from South Carolina State University.

He and his wife, Shelly McMillan, have a 4-year-old son.

"Spartanburg High School has a rich tradition of excellence in academics, arts, athletics, and activities, and I look forward to working alongside the tremendous faculty and staff, students, parents, and community stakeholders as we carry out the mission and vision of Spartanburg District Seven and Spartanburg High School."
