Speak up now, or new congressional districts will cut off Cathedral City

New districts would cut off Cathedral City

The current proposal to divide the Coachella Valley into two congressional districts is a very poor idea, and appears on its face to be an attempt to segregate minority voters.

In particular the map carves out Cathedral City from its neighbors to the west and east and merges it with communities far east in the valley and into Imperial County. By the redistricting commission's own analysis, the proposed district deviates terribly from the "ideal value."

I urge voters of the Coachella Valley to express their disappointment and dissatisfaction with this proposal right away. The maps will be certified by Dec. 27.

I'm not a guy, either

Thank you, Judy Winston. (Letter, Dec. 1.)

On more than one occasion I have commented to servers, and others, who use "guys" as a general term to make note of the fact that I’m a woman.

It comes down to the way language is used today: no regard for proper grammar or the usage of it. I find it is because of the casual attitude young people have about daily life.

It's reflected, as well, in the manner in which they dress. Just look around; you’ll see that it’s everywhere! The attitude that using "guys" as the way to address folks is wrong. It is the lazy way, I can only hope that it will stop.
