Republican chaos in the lower chamber continued in Washington D.C. Tuesday as the G.O.P. led House of Representatives failed to elect a Speaker of the House in the first vote since the ouster of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

Presumed favorite Jim Jordan, who was a key Trump ally in the House during the January 6 insurrection, fell 20 votes short of the Speakership with dissenting votes split between multiple members of the majority party.

Democratic members remained united behind Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries as every Democrat voted for the Representative from New York, even as some members called for a bipartisan solution to the leadership impasse.

A vote is scheduled for Wednesday at 11 a.m. ET though it is unclear if it result in a new Speaker.
