Spectacular Crepuscular Rays of Sunshine Beam Through Kentucky Clouds

Sunbeams shining through clouds in the Kentucky sky were captured in stunning timelapse footage posted on August 23, according to a local resident.

The video was captured by Johnnie Nicholson, who said it was filmed south of London.

Nicholson said “August in Kentucky means three things, Hazy, Hot, and Humid”, and added that “these conditions are perfect for crepuscular rays as cumulus clouds pass by the sun.”

Crepuscular rays is the scientific term for the atmospheric phenomenon, and they occur when the sun sets behind an irregularly shaped cloud or mountain. Credit: Johnnie Nicholson via Storyful
