The Spectator's comics section is receiving a refresh. Here's what you need to know

Everybody needs the occasional break from bad news.

While we strive to cover the great things happening in our community — the neighbor opening a new small business, the local volunteers making a difference, the grant that will transform downtown — the nature of news also puts accidents, crime and troubling trends on the front page.

The comics section, though, provides a guaranteed respite from the travails of the day.

That’s why comics have always played an important role in the newspaper experience. They give us a chance to chuckle and remember that we’re all human, no matter our disagreements. More than just comic relief, they can offer familiarity and the comfort of a favorite sitcom.

Starting Oct. 3, you may notice some changes to our comics page.

Comics pages are being refreshed and standardized across the USA TODAY Network, which includes The Spectator / eveningtribune.com. These changes were made following surveys of loyal readers with an eye on incorporating beloved favorites and adding new comics to the mix.

You’ll see familiar, storied comics like Blondie, Beetle Bailey, Garfield, Zits, Dennis the Menace, Peanuts, Family Circus and more, along with a few fresh faces.

Here's what you'll see in The Spectator:

Tuesday through Friday: Blondie, Zits, Beetle Bailey, Family Circus, Hagar, Dennis the Menace, Garfield, Peanuts, For Better or Worse, Baby Blues, Pickles.

Sunday: Blondie, Zits, Beetle Bailey, Family Circus, Hagar, Dennis the Menace, Garfield, Peanuts, For Better or Worse, Baby Blues, Pickles, Foxtrot, Pearls Before Swine, Jump Start, Ziggy, Marmaduke, Non Sequitur, Crabgrass.

All of these comics will be available in the print edition as well as the eNewspaper, available on your phone, computer or tablet. Subscribers can also go online to check out additional comics at www.eveningtribune.com/comics.

We value your feedback and appreciate your continued support. Don't hesitate to reach out with questions, thoughts and suggestions.
