'Speechless': Visitor Captures Lava Bubbling at Famous Iceland Volcano

A stunned visitor captured lava streaming from Fagradalsfjall volcano near Reykjavik, Iceland, following an eruption in the area on August 3.

According to the Iceland Meteorological Office, lava began to flow following “intense seismic activity” in recent days and was not deemed a threat due to its remote location.

This footage was taken by Francesco Mazzola, who said he captured it in Grindavik on Wednesday evening.

“Speechless in front of this show,” Mazzola said on Twitter, and told Storyful he and his wife were in the area on their honeymoon and were among the first 100 people to get so close to the volcano’s fissure when it erupted. Credit: Francesco Mazzola via Storyful
