Teen killed, speed suspected in Lenoir crash: HP

CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Speed is suspected to be a factor in a deadly head-on collision involving a pickup truck Wednesday night in Lenoir, North Carolina State Highway Patrol said Thursday.

Troopers responded to calls regarding the wreck around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on US-64 near Brush Mountain Road. Taylorsville resident Justin Ray, 17, was found suffering from injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene. Lenoir resident Myron Dula, 63, was found suffering from injuries and was transported to an area medical center with non-life-threatening injuries. Taylorsville resident King Hall, Jr., 61, and a passenger in his vehicle were both treated on scene for minor injuries.

An initial investigation stated that Ray’s Chevy sedan crossed a center line and collided head-on with Dula’s pick-up truck. Hall’s vehicle then struck a piece of debris and crashed into Ray’s vehicle, according to NCSHP.

Speed is suspected to be a factor and no charges are expected to be filed, Highway Patrol said. The area was shut down for approximately three hours.
