A speeding SUV led to the arrest of a Victorville man for suspected kidnapping, embezzlement and other charges.

Sheriff’s officials reported that at around 2:31 a.m. on Wednesday, Deputy C. Cassidy observed a mid-size SUV speeding eastbound on the Nisqualli Road bridge over Interstate 15.

A records check showed the vehicle was reported embezzled from a rental car business in Victorville, authorities said.

Deputy Cassidy initiated a traffic stop and the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Harvey Gobert, 41, of Victorville, did not stop, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials.

During the pursuit, the driver led deputies inside the Casa Bella apartment complex property near Nisqualli and Hesperia roads, where he continued to drive recklessly, speed and drive in circles, sheriff’s officials said.

A passenger inside the vehicle placed her hands out the window waving for help. A witness heard the passenger shouting for help because she was kidnapped, police said.

Gobert and the passenger got out of the vehicle and led deputies on a foot pursuit. Both Gobert and his passenger were eventually detained, according to deputies.

Sheriff’s officials did not reveal how Gobert and the passenger were associated, or details about the alleged kidnapping.

Gobert was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, embezzlement of a rented vehicle, felony reckless evading, and an outstanding felony warrant for threatening to commit a crime, police reported.

He was booked at the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto, with bail set at $130,000, booking records show.
