Spencer’s is expanding in Georgia with a second location opening soon in Columbus

The iconic retailer Spencer’s, known for spicing up malls with its eclectic array of products, is opening a second location in Columbus in early September.

Located in Columbus Park Crossing, the new Spencer’s is expected to open on September 9. Customers who attend the grand opening can receive treats such as cookies and cupcakes, complimentary henna tattoos and a $10 gift card for the first 100 guests.

Typically located in malls, Spencer’s saw an opportunity in opening a store in the shopping center on Whittlesey Boulevard, Andrew Galasso, executive vice president of real estate and construction, told the Ledger-Enquirer.

“The Columbus Park Crossing location stood out due to its appealing combination of high-quality and overall exciting retail offerings,” Galasso said. “Enabling the Spencer’s brand to thrive outside the confines of the traditional mall setting and fostering its continued growth.”

The new store will be located next to the Barnes and Noble in the shopping center, he said.

Spencer’s is an unconventional retailer that offers body jewelry, graphic tees, decor, pop culture merchandise, gag gifts, lingerie and adult products.

It began as Spencer’s Gifts, a mail order company in 1947 before opening its first store in 1963 at Cherry Hill Mall in New Jersey. There are now over 670 Spencer’s locations in North America, according to the brand’s website.

Spencer’s, which also operates Spirit Halloween, is estimated to bring in more than $400 million annually, according to reporting by Business Insider.

The addition of Spencer’s is the second new addition coming to Columbus Park Crossing as the bakery Nothing Bundt Cakes is set to open in the shopping center at the end of August.
