Spend an evening on a farm, go fly a kite or check out a denim fashion show this weekend

Bond with nature, attend a festival or get ideas for your fall wardrobe at events happening this weekend in Springfield and the surrounding area.

Check out these five things to do:

Friday nights on the farm

Start your weekend with a night on the farm on Friday.

Activities will take place from 5-9 p.m. at Bomke’s Patch, 605 Country Lake Drive, Springfield.

Pumpkin picking, a corn maze, and foam pit activities will be available. There will also be a food truck and a showing of the Hocus Pocus movie at sunset, around 7:30 p.m.

Lawn chairs and blankets are encouraged for the movie and a flashlight is required for the corn maze. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for children, and free for children under 2 years old.

BCEF backyard bash

Support the kids while having a ball at the Ball-Chatham Educational Foundation backyard bash Saturday.

The event will take place from 1:30-6 p.m. at Chatham Community Park, 711 S. Park Ave.

There will be live music by Brat Pack, food trucks and liquor tastings. All proceeds will benefit the students and teachers of the Ball-Chatham School District. Tickets are $20.

Attendees must be 21 years old to enter. The event will be held rain or shine.

'Imagine' poetry book release

A new book release for local author Robert L. Horton, also known as ‘Da Moody Poet’ is happening Saturday evening.

The free event will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the African American History Museum, 1440 Monument Ave.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with a signing, poetry readings, and giveaways. Author John James will be a special guest. Refreshments will be available.

Western disco fall fashion show

Get inspiration for your wardrobe at the first ever Velvet and Rosemary western disco fall fashion show on Sunday.

Showtime is 2 p.m. at the Brinkerhoff Home, 1500 N. Fifth St., Springfield.

There will be a pop-up shop and food and drinks will be available to purchase. Guests are encouraged to bring donation items for the Mini-O'Beirne Crisis Nursery to get a voucher discount for the pop-up shop.

Tickets are $25 and include a free drink, appetizer & disco cup. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Mini O'Beirne Crisis Nursery.

Go fly a kite

Look up in the sky for fun at the Chatham family kite festival on Sunday.

The event will take place from 1:30-6:30 p.m., at Chatham Community Park, 711 S. Park Ave., Chatham.

The Chicago Kite Company will do stunt kite demonstrations and games with prizes will be available. There also will be pet adoptions and a pet costume contest.
