Spend a little or spend a lot, those are your choices for New Year's Eve out on the town in Rhode Island.

Options include a buffet as well as multi-course fixed-price dinners with wine options. You can enter a secret speakeasy in Newport or celebrate the night away on a rooftop. One French restaurant will saber the Champagne early so you can be home by midnight. You can even enjoy a two-night affair in Newport, if money is no object.

What matters is that you share the night with those who matter to you. By any measure, 2022 has been the third challenging year in a row for many. Kissing it goodbye will be a welcome act.

It is with hope we begin our journey into 2023. We hope for a year without illness or financial challenges. We dream with joy, not apprehension, in our hearts. That is my wish for all of us.

Gulf Stream Bar & Grille

Located at Safe Harbor Marina, the Gulf Stream at 1 Lagoon Rd. in Portsmouth, is hosting a special three-course dinner on New Year's Eve for $29. Half-priced bottles of wine are offered with dinner. Choose a first course of New England chowder, salad or four oysters. Second course choices are Grilled Tautog over quinoa, Surf & Turf with ribeye topped with Creole shrimp or Spinach and Mushroom Wellington. This elegant restaurant at Hammett's Hotel, 4 Commercial Wharf in Newport, will feature a deluxe, seven-course, freestyle tasting menu for $80. It includes snacks of Oysters, Potato Frico and creme fraiche and Wagyu beef carpaccio; plates of Duck Agnolotti with foie gras, Octopus and Ribeye; and dessert of Pan di Spagna. Atrium on Main

This new restaurant is open in downtown Pawtucket at 285 Main St. They will have a New Year's Eve Bash with a buffet, party favors and a Champagne toast at midnight. The full bar will be available for drinks. Entry tickets cost $45 and are available on Eventbrite. They will have live music with two bands, Opus 3 and The Dave Richardson Band. The new plant-based restaurant at 1 State St, Bristol, is offering a six-course, fixed-price dinner for New Year's Eve for parties of one to five. The cost is $100. Tax, gratuity or drinks are not included in the price. To reserve online, visit fogliabristol.com or call (401) 253-1195.

The French restaurant at 44 Custom House St. in Providence welcomes the New Year with music from Gregg Abate from 7:30 to 10 p.m. and a Grand Champagne Sabering Finale with party hats and noise makers, all well before midnight. Entree choices include Duck Confit, Boeuf Bourguignon, Vegan Mushroom CousCous Lobster, Shrimp and Scallop Crepes. Wines and Champagne are included in the $150 per person cost. Newport Craft Brewing & Distilling

The brewer and distiller will host a New Year's Eve Speakeasy from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Audrain Vanderbilt Room 256 Maple Ave. in Newport. Guests will enter the speakeasy with a special code word and go back in time to celebrate the New Year with food, lavish cocktails and glamorous garb. The cost of tickets are $20 on Eventbrite. They will also be sold at the door.

Kin Southern Table + Bar

The soul food and more restaurant at 71 Washington St., Providence, kinpvd.com, have reservations for dinner available and is open from 5 to 10 p.m. Go online or call (401) 537-7470.

There are three ways to celebrate in downtown Providence at 86 Dorrance St. Dinner at Sarto offers a four-course dinner with early seatings at 5 or 5:30 p.m. ($95 per person); or 7 and 7:30 p.m. ($120 per person with a Champagne toast). There is a later seating at 9 p.m. ($135) that includes entertainment and a countdown to midnight. There is complimentary valet parking.
