'Spider-Man,' Rufus Wainright and Andrea Bocelli to perform with orchestras in Louisville

The world of classical music takes on pop culture at three different concerts headed to Louisville starting this fall. A blockbuster feature film, a Grammy-nominated artist, and an iconic Italian tenor are scheduled to perform at three of Louisville's most popular venues.

Here's what to know about tickets and productions of "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Live," Rufus Wainright kicking off the Louisville Orchestra's Pops Season and the Louisville Orchestra performing with the legendary Andrea Bocelli.

'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Live in Concert'

The inaugural national tour of the animated film "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" is coming to the Brown Theatre, 315 W. Broadway on Friday, Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m. The Academy Award-winning film will be accompanied by a live orchestra, band and turntables with a scratch DJ playing music from the score and soundtrack.

Joining the tour is The Broadway Sinfonietta, an all-women orchestra. The hip-hop-infused film score contains original music showcasing elements of heroism, resilience and is complemented by song contributions from industry greats Post Malone, Lil Wayne, Jaden Smith and Nicki Minaj.

Tickets are on sale Friday, June 16 at 10 a.m. at KentuckyPerformingArts.org.

Rufus Wainwright: Want Symphonic

The Louisville Orchestra's 2023-24 Pop Season will open with a special concert with award-winning singer-songwriter Rufus Wainright. The concert, which promises to be a "sonic Shangri-La" featuring 60 classical musicians accompanying Wainright and drummer Matt Johnson, takes place at The Louisville Palace, 625 S Fourth St., on Sept. 30, at 7:30 p.m.

Praised by The New York Timesfor his “genuine originality,” Wainright is considered one of the great male vocalists, songwriters, and composers of his generation. During his Louisville concert with the Louisville Orchestra, Wainright plans to perform a large selection of songs from both his "Want One" album from 2003 and "Want Two" album from 2004, including his iconic interpretation of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah."

Tickets go on sale to the general public Friday, June 16 at 10 a.m. at Ticketmaster.com.

Iconic Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli will make his first-ever stop in Louisville with the Louisville Orchestra at the KFC Yum Center, 1 Arena Plaza on Saturday, Dec. 2, at 8 p. m.The tour will feature performances from Bocelli's extensive repertoire, including music in honor of the holiday season, with selections from his recent No. 1 album "A Family Christmas," his uplifting solo album "Believe" as well as a selection of arias, his beloved crossover hits and famed songs.
