Spider-Man's Jake Gyllenhaal teaming up with Guy Ritchie for The Interpreter

Spider-Man: Far From Home's Jake Gyllenhaal will be directed by Guy Ritchie in the upcoming thriller The Interpreter.
First reported by Deadline, this one was inspired by the Aladdin filmmaker's conversations with soldiers and their interpreters – co-penning the script with Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies (Wrath of Man).

Gyllenhaal, who headlined Netflix's The Guilty this autumn, signs on to play Sergeant John Kinley here, with filming set to begin in January 2022.
The action sees Kinley on his final tour of duty with local interpreter Ahmed; when their unit is ambushed on patrol, the pair are the only survivors. Ahmed risks his own life to carry the injured Kinley across miles of gruelling terrain to safety, all while the enemy is in pursuit.
When he returns to the US, Kinley learns that Ahmed and his family were not given the promised passage to America, and with determination to protect his friend and repay his debt, Kinley returns to the warzone to find Ahmed and his family before the local militias get to them.

Ritchie originally arrived on the scene with low-budget London crime capers Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, but has since worked in the detective, medieval and spy genres.
Meanwhile, Gyllenhaal recently explained why he knew The Guilty needed to be shot in an incredibly short space of time.
"I thought each piece presents its own challenges and tells you what it is and I thought from the very beginning, and it was how I pitched it to Antoine [Fuqua, director] was, 'I know you're not available, but we can do this in five days, and that would be really fun, don't you think?'
"We both do like a challenge, but I think it was baked in the process and into the story from the jump."
