Spike Lee’s Prince Tribute Was A Massive Impromptu Street Party

Spike Lee turned his Brooklyn home into a party venue last night as he threw a last minute bash in honour of Prince.

>Hundreds of fans of the late musician took to the streets after the filmmaker posted an open invitation on his Instagram page.

According to Press Association, over 1000 people turned out for the celebration.

The invite instructed that they wear ‘something purple’ as a mark of respect to the Purple Rain singer and to dance, sing and shout to his music.

Revellers took to social media to praise the event, with many commenting on the good vibes.

Spike also took to Instagram to post a throwback picture of himself and Prince, which has over 10k likes.

There were other parties over the world, including several in Prince’s hometown of Minneapolis. The First Avenue club, where Prince played before he hit the big time, held an all-night dance party last night and have more planned for over the weekend.

They posted an emotional tribute on their Facebook page yesterday. It said: “He grew up on this stage, and then commanded it, and he united our city. It is difficult to put into words the impact his death will have on the entire music community, and the world.

“As the tragic news sinks in, our thoughts are with Prince’s family, friends, and fans. We deeply mourn the loss of our friend, a true star. Rest in peace and power Prince.”

Prince was found dead at his home and recording studio yesterday morning.
