SPIKEDTelescope May Have Picked Up Signs Of Alien Life, Scientists Say

A Chinese telescope may have detected signs of life beyond our planet, scientists revealed in a report this week.

The report, originally published in China’s Science and Technology Daily newspapers but since deleted, says researchers came across “several cases of possible technological traces and extraterrestrial civilizations from outside the Earth,” Live Science reported.

The traces were derived from the largest radio telescope in the world, the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope, known as the “Sky Eye,” the website said.

The search for signals started in 2019. Scientists detected some signals that “could have been produced by alien technology,” although they were hesitant about the findings.

The report was taken offline following its trending status on popular social platform Weibo and state-run outlets in China, Time reported.

Zhang Tonjie, a head scientist at Beijing Normal University, said “several” signals differ from those discovered in the past. A team of scientists is investigating further, according to Live Science.

“The possibility that the suspicious signal is some kind of radio interference is also very high, and it needs to be further confirmed and ruled out,” Tonjie said.

“This may be a long process.”
