Splish splash: Dive into summer at these Wayne, Holmes, Ashland swimming pools

WOOSTER — Memorial Day weekend traditionally marks the unofficial start of summer, and one of the many summer traditions is swimming at the local public pools. Following is a roundup of public pools in Wooster, Wayne, Holmes and Ashland Counties.

Jen Halverson, Holmes Park District director reports that some weather and mechanical issues on some needed painting may delay the opening of Crissey Memorial Pool in Millersburg.

The opening of Crissey Memorial Pool in Millersburg is expected to be this weekend, but the official opening day remains to be determined because of some painting and mechanical issues.

"They finally were able to start today (Tuesday)," Halverson said. "Now it's just a matter of time. Once they finish painting, it takes time for the paint to cure, and then a couple days to fill the pool and time to get our chemicals balanced.

"Ideally and traditionally, we would like to open Saturday, but I'm not 100 percent sure about that happening right now," she continued. "We will open as soon as we can once everything is ready. If we can open Saturday, we will, but I think that's overly optimistic. If it takes until Sunday or Monday to get the water perfect and pass our health inspections, we'll open then."
