Leave your baby monitor at home, this one goes out to all the mums and dads. A delectable piece of music hidden behind dissonant vocals and fleshed out guitar.

A 3 piece outfit formed in Bridgend, Wales called Guide Dog have recently released a new single titled, “I am the Daddy” in reference to their newfound forays into fatherhood. Frontman, Pete Roberts sings through a blockade of heavy guitar.

Even the name, “I am the Daddy” has immediately cemented the continuity of Dad approved Sponge Grunge reiterated with Guide Dog’s debut album, Lovely Domestic Bliss”

As the song title suggest, “I am the Daddy” relays the perpetual monotony of being a parent, living a utilitarian life and picking up a few 10p bags on the way into one song. But, having had over 15 years experience already in the music industry, it’s unsurprising to hear that the latest single is a success.

“I’ve got a bag for life, cuz i’m so clever”

“I am the Daddy” is an introspective insight into everyday parenthood, that propels the song forward through it’s relatability amongst aging music critics and presenters alike. Albeit, the age appropriate lyrics, harmonically “I am The Daddy” poses as a fresh and intriguing sound that will appeal to even the youngest listeners, igniting a musical kinship between all ages that borders an indifference sought out by every generation.

Slurred vocals that beckon throughout the song, that directly demarcates the guitar, not necessarily accompanying the guitar, but creating a distinguishable contrast between heavy metal guitar and slacker vocals.

Sounds like: “The Soft Bulletin” The Flaming Lips, “Spoonman” Soundgarden, “Show Me How to Live” Audioslave.

“Lovely Domestic Bliss” Guide Dog’s debut album is released through Hi-Vis Records, July 7th.
