Sport Shorts: Youth volleyball program to begin in December

Nov. 19—The Jamestown Parks & Recreation is sponsoring a winter volleyball program for girls in grades 1-4. The six-week program will be held Saturday mornings from December 4th through January 22nd. The cost to participate is $25 dollars per person. Program dates are Dec. 4th, 11th and 18th. The program's January dates are slated for the 8th, 15th and 22nd.

Optimist Club doles out Athlete of the Week honors

Sulinke Van Den Berg, a freshman for the University of Jamestown women's swimming and diving team, won the 200 and 500 freestyle events last weekend. Van Den Berg was on the first-place winning 400 freestyle relay team. The Jimmies wound up defeating UM-Morris.

Park Beeler, a freshman Jimmie wrestler, earned a 5th place finish at the Dakota Wesleyan Open on Saturday in the 165-pound weight class.

Alexes Prasek, a junior on the Jamestown High School swimming and diving team, placed top 16 in both the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke at the state girls swimming and diving meet. Prasek was also a part of the two, state- placing 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.

The Blue Jays placed ninth out of 18 competing teams at the state meet.
