Sports betting site names 4 Wilmington-area beaches among state's most popular
Nearly half of a top 10 list featuring North Carolina beaches include ones in Brunswick, New Hanover and Pender counties.
BetCarolina.com, a North Carolina sports betting site, recently published its list of popular state beach locales. Carolina Beach was ranked third, followed by Oak Island fourth, Topsail Beach fifth and Wrightsville Beach sixth.
BetCarolina.com cited U.S. News & World Report’s “Best North Carolina Beaches” list as a starting point to see which beaches to use. It then utilized Google Trends to gather the search interest of each beach listed in U.S. News & World Report's list over the past 90 days to finalize its top 10.
Along with public beaches, Carolina Beach has options beyond the sand such as the Carolina Beach State Park and its Flytrap Trail as well as a boardwalk with amusement rides.

Oak Island in Brunswick County features 10 miles of beaches and is separated from the mainland by the Intracoastal Waterway. The site said it features more of a small town feel than beach resort but is also good for fishing and seafood.
Topsail Beach sits at the southern end of Topsail Island. The Pender County town can see its population increase five-fold during tourist season.
The site also praised Wrightsville Beach as popular for North Carolina day-trippers because of its convenience and weather.
"We recommend a cold one at Lagerheads Tavern after a dip in the ocean," the report stated.
Nags Head, a town on the Outer Banks in Dare County, topped the list with Emerald Isle second. The rest of the list includes Corolla in northern Currituck County seventh, Atlantic Beach eighth, and two more Dare beaches in Duck and Kitty Hawk.
