Sep. 12—Cougs top Titans

FT. BRANCH — North Daviess wrapped up a grueling week of tennis titans with a 4-1 win at Gibson Southern. ND's top doubles unit ended their short slump as Colin Kemp/Breck Byrer rolled 6-1, 6-2 for the team's first point. Jaylen Mullen remained unbeaten with a 6-0, 6-4 outcome at one singles. The Cougar two dubs tandem of Max Toy/Cam Sassano survived a third set for a 6-0, 2-6, 6-1 team-clinching point. The fourth victory came at the second singles slot where sophomore Blake Huff rallied for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 finish. Brycen Skinner fought admirably but fell in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 in the three singles position.

Coach Mullen reflected, "These boys have navigated a tough week of tennis and battled at all spots. I am very proud of their individual efforts, and the early-morning performance we had on Saturday after an hour-plus long bus ride to Gibson Southern was impressive. This Cougar tennis team continues to meet my high expectations."

In junior varsity matches against the Titans, Coby Loheider, Nate Resler, and Dom Schultz claimed wins as did the doubles duos of Aiden Pridemore/Aden Graber, Collin Lengacher/Braylen Pridemore, and Lance Stoll/Ethan Henning. The Cougars travel to Washington on Monday and then host Terre Haute South and Tecumseh at Tony Steele Courts on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.

Lions take Invite

LOOGOOTEE — The Loogootee volleyball team (9-4) won the Loogootee Invitational on Saturday. The Lions beat Paoli 25-11, 25-19, Boonville 25-19, 25-16 and beat Evansville Mater Dei in the championship, 25-20, 21-25, 15-11.

The stat leaders for the day were: Mallorie Sutton 17 points, Lindsey Nolan 15, Kyleigh Courter 14, Brooklyn Summers 14. Cacia Wilcoxen 19kills, Sydnee Wittmer 18, Ashlynn Gilbert 16 and Sydnee Wittmer with 35 assists and Brooklyn Summers 30. Wilcoxen also had five kills, while Kyleigh Courter had 32 digs, Brooklyn Summers 21, Lindsey Nolan 17

The Loogootee Varsity and JV will be back in action at home Tuesday, against Vincennes Rivet.

Cougars win Invite

CAYUGA — On Saturday, the North Daviess Cougars volleyball competed at the North Vermilion Invitational. In the first game ND beat Hebron 25-12.

In the championship game, they defeated the host school 25-21 and 25-19 to win the title.

Lady Hatchets get win

POSEYVILLE — WHS (6-2) downed North Posey 1-0 on Saturday.

"We had a slow start of the game but capitalized when we were awarded a free kick that Chloe Browning took and found the back of net. We struggled to play our game and speed today but we are continuing to improve each day and play as a team," said WHS coach Madi Lee.

WHS host Boonville on Wednesday.
