Newmarket basketball sweeps Nute

NUTE - Baris Fortier had a career-high 38 points and the Newmarket High School boys basketball team opened its Division IV season with a 75-37 win at Nute on Tuesday.

Parker Sweitzer added 17 points for the Mules, while Jaron LaBranche had nine.

In the girls game, Newmarket improved to 2-0 on the season with a 53-13 win at home. Senior Lena Nicholson led the Mules with 12 points, while Harley Radi had eight and Amaya Beckles had seven, all coming in the first quarter.

Men’s hockey: Three blowouts in RMHL

ROCHESTER – It was Blowout Monday in the Rochester Men’s Hockey League. DeNiro Development whipped Franman Transportation, 12-1; Homecare of New England iced Zoeller Realty Group, 8-2, and league-leading Leavitt Electric put a charge into RSA Realty, 9-3.

Doug Larson had a big night for DeNiro (6-3-1) with four goals and four assists. Kody Grondin added a hat trick and Alex Devine had two goals and two assists. Chipping in with a goal and an assist each were Chris Atwood, Tom Gillum and Jeff Gray. Mike Sullivan made 25 saves in goal.

Nate DeWolf scored the lone goal for Franman (3-7-0). Zane Angelopoulos stopped 39 shots.

Four different players scored two goals for Homecare (7-3-0): Kyle Carignan (assist), Kory Ferullo (two assists), Logan Hatch and Matt Keene. Drew Pepin had two assists. Nick Paxton stopped 23 shots.

For Zoeller (3-6-1), Jordan Plante lit the lamp twice. Lennie Foss made 31 saves.

In the nightcap, Leavitt (7-1-2) was led by Zach Leavitt, Dave Robicheau and Owen Allen with two goals and an assist each, while Chris Hitchcock had a goal and two assists. Rick Kramer and Josh Terry also scored. Tyler Briand made 19 saves.

Jamie Ferullo scored two goals for RSA (2-8-0). Packy Campbell had a goal and an assist. Brayden McGarry stopped 30 shots.
