Sports Briefs: Tigersharks split with Cathedral

Jan. 11—In their final dual before the Sagamore Conference Meet, the Lebanon Tigersharks split with Cathedral on Tuesday night.

The girls won 98-77, with the boys losing 92-88.

For the girls, Lebanon got a win in the medley relay from Jessie Stevens, Anna Hale, Cora Dial and Karlee Avila in a time of 2:04.13.

Lebanon went 1-2 in the 200-free, with Paige Howard winning in 2:19.56 and Bea Johnson placing second in 2:21.47. They also went 1-2 in the 200-IM, with Hale winning in 2:31.57 and Kylee Rodriguez placing second in 2:45.82.

Emma Waskum won diving with a score of 73.10, Hale won the 500 in 6:08.56, the 200-free relay team of Howard, Dial, Avila and Hale won in a time of 1:52.27, and Dial won the 100-back in 1:06.52.

Dial was second in the 50 in a time of 27.27, Martita Sheets was second in the butterfly in a time of 1:26.68, Howard was second in the 100-free in 1:02.06, and the 400-free relay team of Howard, Johnson, Sheets and Stevens placed second in 4:33.51.

For the boys, Lebanon went 1-2 in the backstroke, with Taylor O'Brien winning in 1:04.67 and John Gascho placing second in 1:05.19.

Grayson Goff won the 200-free in 1:54.26, Kaden Burress won diving with a score of 160.80, Tate DeLaRosa won the 500 in 5:29.17, Rylan Rule won the breaststroke in 1:06.83 and the 400-free relay team of Camden Perrine, DeLaRosa, Rule and Goff won in 3:36.81.

The medley relay team of Gascho, Rule, Corbin Daisley and Parker Lawson placed second in 1:53.66. Daisley was second in the IM in 2:21.36, Perrine was second in the 50 in 24.41 and the butterfly in 1:01.88, Danil Krulik was second in diving with a score of 133.20, Goff was second in the 100-free in 49.68, and the 200-free relay team of Gascho, Perrine, DeLaRosa and Goff was second in 1:38.51.

WeBo Wrestling

The Western Boone wrestling team topped Parke Heritage 76-6 on Tuesday.

After Jacob Smith won by forfeit at 160, Trevor Weakley won by pin at 170 and Ethan Williams won a 13-5 decision at 182.

Wyatt Dickey and Joshua Dickey won by pin at 220 and 285, and after Isaac Moore won by forfeit at 106, Jacob Anderson and Isaiah Garland picked up wins by pin at 113 and 120.

Lincoln Rose picked up his first-career win with a pin at 126, and after Aden Conner won by forfeit at 132, Trey Fuston, Mason Adams and Evan Trent all picked up pins to end the meet.

Western Boone is back in action on Saturday at the Sagamore Conference Tourney.

WeBo Girls Basketball

The Western Boone girls basketball team topped Crawfordsville 61-33.

Emmy Roys had 20 points and 18 rebounds of the Stars, with Katheryn Rutherford adding 17 points and 12 rebounds. Carlie Pennington added 14 points, Ila Stokes contributed 6 points and Emmerson Gott added four points.

Western Boone hosts Frankfort on Friday night for senior night.

Porras named Coach of the Year

Zionsville boys cross country coach Gabe Porras was named Indiana Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Porras was named cross country coach in 2002 and has led the Eagles to the State Finals eight times.

The Eagles had a historic season this fall, placing second in the State Meet. Zionsville won the sectional and regional titles, while placing second at the semi-state.

The USATF Indiana chapter also named Zionsville's Fin Essley their 15-16 year old boys athlete of the year.

Essley won the

USATF Indiana Association Junior Olympic Championship in the shot put (44-1.25) and discus (151-10.75) while placing second in the hammer throw (114-4). He matched those places at the regional competition as well.
