May 9—Cougs take 2nd

LINTON — The North Daviess golf team took second at Phil Harris in Linton on Tuesday.

Eastern Greene shot 181, ND posted a 188 and Linton shot 210.

Bub Pershing led ND with a 45, Nick Fine came in at 46 and Coby Lohieder added a 47. Lance Stoll rounded out the scoring with a 50.

WHS falls to MTV

The Washington softball team fell to Mount Carmel (Ill.), 20-4 in five innings. WHS did have eight hits, including two each from Liberty Holtsclaw and Katie Reed. Elly Shartzer had the biggest hit of the night with a home run and two RBIs.

MTC had three home runs, both teams had just one error. Kiara Welsh started and took the loss for WHS. MTC had 18 hits during the game.

LHS beats Bloomfield

LOOGOOTEE — The Loogootee Lions tennis team moved to 10-7 with a 4-1 win over Bloomfield on Tuesday.

LHS took the top two spots, with Kieragen Napier beating Adalyn Wiseman, 7-6 (8), 6-2, and Caitlin Carrico defeated Lucy Allen 6-2, 6-4, but Bloomfield's Adalyn Figg defeated Marley McAtee, 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles, Ana Toy/Addy Lengacher defeated Sadie Ross/Maddie Stone, 6-3, 6-1, while Abbey Fischer /Macy Knepp beat Lani Graves/Lydia Wade, 6-2, 6-0.

Bloomfield won the JV matches, 3-1. LHS travels to Edgewood on Thursday.

"It is always nice to pick up a win on Senior Night. Bloomfield came ready to play and had us on our heels early. We matched their intensity and had a strong finish," said Mike Tippery.

B-R blanks Pike Central

PETERSBURG — The Barr-Reeve tennis team lost just four total games while beating Pike Central, 5-0 on Tuesday.

At No. 1, Brylee Fuhrman won 1 and 0, Beth Graber won by the same score, while Brynlee Rollins won 1 and 1 at No. 3.

Sydney Swartzentruber and Dylan DeCoursey added an 0 and 0 win in the top doubles spot, while Claire Harrison and Alli Robinson won 0 and 0 as well.

WHS falls to Bloomfield

BLOOMFIELD — The Washington Hatchets dropped to 6-14 with a 9-3 loss to Bloomfield on the road Monday.

WHS picked up hits from Brody Clark, Trey James, Hunter Walls and Olsen Kroeger, while Braxton Nathan had the lone WHS RBI.

Mattox Hinkle took the loss on the mound for WHS but did strike out eight Bloomfield batters in five innings. James also pitched an inning of relief. Bloomfield had three home runs in the game.

Rangers blank LHS

FERDINAND — Lucas Brittain and Drew Walker got hits for the Loogootee Lion baseball team (9-8) in a 6-0 loss to Forest Park on Monday. Luke Lengacher took the loss on the mound.

Games rescheduled

The North Daviess at WRV baseball game will now be played on Wednesday at 5 p.m., while Barr-Reeve baseball at Wood Memorial will now be Saturday at 2 p.m.

Tom Miles Invite schedule

On Saturday WHS will host the 29th annual Tom Miles Invitational. The schedule will be as follows: Game 1, Washington vs. Shakamak, 10 a.m., Game 2, Sullivan vs. North Harrison at 12:15, consolation game at 2:30 p.m., championship at 5 p.m. All game will be played at the Sports Complex.
