Sports scores, highlights: Connolly boys soccer nips Atlantis, Somerset blanks Fairhaven

The fall sports season is heading into the final month before the start of tournament time for Fall River area teams.

Take a look at the highlights from Tuesday's local high school action:

Boys soccer: Atlantis Charter at Bishop Connolly

HIGHLIGHTS: The Tritons were blanked by Bishop Connolly. Chris Guzman scored the lone goal of the game for the Cougars on an assist from Jayden Souza. Brandon DeFaria collected the shutout in net. "This was a tough battle [we] did not come prepared for," Atlantis Charter head coach Nathan Mello said. "We came out slow and Connolly came out ready. As head coach, I take that responsibility in needing to make sure our team is prepared. We will work to improve on our short comings and prepare for our next game."

NEXT UP: Atlantis Charter host Case on Thursday while the Cougars host West Bridgewater on Thursday.

Boys soccer: Diman at Blue Hill

SCORE: Diman 1, Blue Hills 1

HIGHLIGHTS: The Bengals tied their game with league opponent Blue Hills on the road. Carlos dos Santos scored the lone goal for Diman on an assist from Aiden Furtado. Great defense by Cameron Cadieux, Donnie Gonzaga, Nevehn Jose, Aiden Coleman. Landon Cordeiro has six saves in net.

NEXT UP: The Bengals play a rematch with the Warriors on Wednesday.

Boys soccer: Durfee vs. Seekonk

SCORE: Durfee 4, Seekonk 1

LOCATION: Durfee

DATE: Oct. 11

RECORD: Durfee, 7-1-3 (2-0-2 in Southeast Conference)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Hilltoppers had a great all-around team performance against Seekonk at home. Evan Carvalho (assist), Landon Medeiros (assist), Sergio Dias (assist) and Gilberto Correia each scored for Durfee. Landon Freitas also added an assist.

NEXT UP: The Hilltoppers travel to Brockton on Thursday.

Boys soccer: Westport at Avon

SCORE: Westport 8, Avon 0

LOCATION: Avon

DATE: Oct. 11

RECORD: Westport, 9-0 ( 4-0-1 in Mayflower Comprehensive)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Wildcats had an easy time on the road against league opponent Avon. Hunter Brodeur netted three goals for Westport in the win. Jake Cross netted a pair of goals while Coltrane McGonigle and Will Quinlan also found the back of the net. Ben Novo chipped in with two assists. Tyler Arraial, Landen Novo and Carter Couto each contributed an assist Elijah McGonigle had two saves in net. "The game provided our younger players with an opportunity to play substantial minutes and they did a terrific job," Wildcat head coach Chris Parker said.

NEXT UP: Westport takes on Holbrook on Thursday.

Girls soccer: Diman vs. Blue Hills

HIGHLIGHTS: The Bengals lost a tough one to league opponent Blue Hills. Kiara Almeida scored Diman's lone goal on an assist from Elizabeth Kinnane. The Bengals dominated play in the first half, hit the post on three occasions and outshot the Warriors, 7- 2.

NEXT UP: The Bengals play a rematch with Blue Hills on Wednesday.

Girls soccer: Westport vs. Avon

SCORE: Avon 1, Westport 0

LOCATION: Westport

DATE: Oct. 11

RECORD: Westport, 2-8 (1-4 in Mayflower Comprehensive)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Wildcats competed hard but fell short against Avon. "Big improvements for our Wildcats," Westport head coach Gary Muello said. "We continue to learn the game and work on our first touch."

NEXT UP: The Wildcats host Holbrook on Thursday.

Field hockey: Somerset Berkley vs. Fairhaven

SCORE: Somerset Berkley 9, Fairhaven 0

LOCATION: Somerset Berkley

DATE: Oct. 11

RECORD: Somerset Berkley, 9-1-1 (7-1 in South Coast Conference)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Raiders secured a tournament berth after blanking league opponent Fairhaven. Karissa Albin, Emily Bjork, and Logan Diffley each netted two goals in the win for SBR. Tatum Swanson, Reese Swanson, and Abbie O’Brien also scored goals. Albin, Addie Finlaw, and Ava Pontes each had assists. Jordan Theriault had no shots on net through three quarters. Backup goalie Sophia Valcourt had one shot in her varsity debut in the final quarter.

NEXT UP: The Raiders travel to Plymouth North on Wednesday.

Field hockey: Westport vs. West Bridgewater

HIGHLIGHTS: The Wildcats had their four-game win streak snapped, dropping a close, evenly matched battle against West Bridgewater. Hannah Abrams played well in net, stopping seven shots in the matchup.

Golf: Joseph Case at Old Rochester

LOCATION: Bay Club

HIGHLIGHTS: The Cardinals dropped their match against South Coast Conference powerhouse Old Rochester.  Low score for Case was Ryan Farrell, who shot a 43. Other notable golfers were Connor Lloyd (50), Everett Rego (50) and Alex Reed (52).

Golf: Durfee at Sullivan Memorial

LOCATION: D.W. Field Golf course

HIGHLIGHTS: The Hilltoppers golf team participated in the Sullivan Memorial tournament today and placed second overall out of seven teams. Ethan Tho tied for second place Individually for Durfee with a team-low score of 73. Other notable Hilltopper golfers were Brady Sullivan (79) and Mike Banalewicz (86).

NEXT UP: Durfee takes on Middleboro on Wednesday.

Golf: Westport at Bishop Connolly

HIGHLIGHTS: The Wildcats won their match against Bishop Connolly. Individual match winners for Westport were Owen Boudria, Ben Bernier, Bryton Graham, Cooper Spirlet and Liam McMahon. Low round on the day was 41 by Owen Boudria.

NEXT UP: The Bengals will compete at the Mayflower Athletic Conference tournament on Thursday

Girls volleyball: Bishop Connolly vs. Somerset Berkley

SCORE: Somerset Berkley 3, Bishop Connolly 1 (25-9, 25-10, 22-25, 25-13)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Raiders won three of four sets against non-league opponent Bishop Connolly. Abigail Vieira had six kills, 10 digs, five aces and a block for SBR. Annabella Karpicz finished with five aces and seven kills. Caroline Puccini ended with two aces and 16 digs. Lainey Vanvoorhis led the Cougars with seven kills, and Samantha O'Leary chipped in with two kills. Kirstyn Mello had an outstanding performance at the libero position, finishing with 10 digs

Girls volleyball: Diman at Tri-County

SCORE: Tri-County 3, Diman 0

LOCATION: Tri-County

RECORD: Diman, 8-3 (4-1 in Mayflower Large)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Bengals dropped three straight sets to Tri-County. Sarah Moniz had seven kills and eight digs for Diman. Lindsey Moniz chipped in with two aces, five kills, and seven digs. Kacie Lynch had three aces, three kills and seven digs. Avery Rounds and Vitoria DeOliveira finished with 12 digs each. Hannah Martin rounded out the scoring with two aces, six digs, and a  94% setting percentage with 12 assists.

NEXT UP: The Bengals travel to Blue Hills on Thursday.

Girls volleyball: Durfee at Apponequet

SCORE: Apponequet 3, Durfee1 (25-22, 21-25, 22-25, 19-25)

LOCATION: Apponequet

RECORD: Durfee, 5-9, (1-4 in Southeast Conference)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Hilltoppers dropped three of four sets against non-league opponent Apponequet on the road. Lauren Kuchar had a season-high 16 kills for Durfee. Kelly Montanez added five kills and two blocks, Gabby Farias finished with four kills and two blocks. Jasmine Caine added 28 assist and Alexis Layne had 30 digs.

NEXT UP: The Hilltoppers host Dartmouth on Wednesday.

Girls volleyball: Joseph Case vs. New Bedford

SCORE: Joseph Case 3, New Bedford 0 (25-10, 25-11, 25-14)

LOCATION: Joseph Case

RECORD: Joseph Case, 13-1 (9-0 in South Coast Conference)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Cardinals swept all three sets against non-league opponent New Bedford at home. Jamie Moniz had a huge day at the net for Case with 15 kills, many of them loud kills. Olivia Silva had 26 assists. Hannah Storm had eight kills and eight digs. Loagan Brown had seven kills. Sophia Conos and Brianna Campos were solid in the back and serving. Avery Richardson played well at the net.

NEXT UP: Joseph Case will host Apponequet in their annual 'Pink Game' Thursday.

Cross country: Diman vs. Southeastern

SCORE: Southeastern 17, Diman boys 45; Diman girls 25, Southeastern 30

LOCATION: Diman

DATE: Oct. 11

RECORD: Diman boys, 3-2; Diman girls, 5-0

HIGHLIGHTS: The Bengals cross country teams split their meet with league opponent Southeastern. Running well for the boys were Will Ferreira (18:54) CJ Mendez (20:29), Macaulay Crossman (20:42), and Tanyon Reis (21:35). The girls remained unbeaten after taking their meet against Southeastern. For the girls, Raeleigh Levesque placed second with a time of 24:45. Inez Medeiros (24:59) and Nya Martinez took third and fourth place, respectively. Eden McCausland (25:49) and Lylah Thibeault (27:33) also ran well. The meet was the last home meet for Diman for the next few years due to construction.

NEXT UP: The Bengals take on Bristol-Plymouth on Oct. 18.
